Architect's drawing of Ryle Dormitory for girls. On January 6, 1959, a Planning Committee of the faculty was appointed whose function was to lead in formulating a long time program for the expansion and development of the teacher education program of the Missouri State Teachers College. This committee attempted to establish and organize the framework for a long time program that would cover all phases of our College's activities. V During the past year our College has grown to new heights. The enrollment reached nearly 3,300 stu- dents. Dobson Hall, a new dormitory housing 484 boys, was opened last September. The construction of another new dormitory housing 618 girls will soon be started. This is a good beginning but only a mere be- ginning of the program proposed by the Planning Com- mittee for the growth and development of our College during the next decade. I consider the ECHO as one of the important factors in the expansion and growth of our Teachers College. Its publication demands much effort and time on the part of many students who are to be congratu- lated on a iine publication. Walter H. Dean ieger conquers the complexities of his office Dr. and Mrs. Rieger shown in their residence at 516 South Halliburton. If each of us will do his very best each day, then he can face his fellows and himself with the knowledge that he has done all that he can. Living such a philosophy' ably represents the calm, deliberate manner and sound judgment of our Dean of Instruction, Dr. Wray Rieger. An asset to Dr. Rieger's present position is his past experience with KSTC which began in 1927 as a laboratory assistant. He soon became an in- structor, and his ability as an educator soon mer- ited him a professorship and Head of the Division of Science and Mathematics. In 1960 he was ap- pointed Dean of Instruction. Dean Rieger has proven himself a true friend of education and a true friend of youth, one whose courage and leadership we can trust implicitly.

President Ryle, an excellent administrator ill, President Ryle and his wife in their residence at 820 East Patterson. Our president, Dr. Walter H. Ryle, has served the college in various capaci- ties. These include Professors of Social Science and Head of the Bureau of Placements. But his chief contributions have been in the field of administration. Appointed in 1937 as President of KSTC, Dr. Ryle has been throughout the years a tirelessworker and a great orga- nizer. The forward march of KSTC through the past 25 years has been large- ly due to his vision and his indefatigible efforts. In the present academic year new records have been set: enrollment ex- panded, dormitories built, and faculty en- larged, all outward evidences of the tan- gible progress noteworthy throughout all the years of President Ryle's administra- tion.
