The Northeast Missouri State Teachers College at Kirksville, is celebrating its 90th year of existence. Founded in 1867, it is one of the oldest state teachers colleges west of the Mississippi River. The school was establishd by Joseph Baldwin for the primary purpose of educating teachers for the public schools of this state, and still remains dedicated to that pur- pose. The college has grown lrom a single frame building with an enrollment of 140 students to its present position of an honored Missouri institution with 15 buildings and over 1700 students. The ECHO is proud to recognize the service of this col- lege on its 90th anniversary. In Memoriam Kurt Ballard This page is dedicated to the past sponsor of the ECHO in memory of his service to the yearbook and to the college. 4 ECHO STAFF DON SWAYZE Assistant Business Manager MILDRED PAGE Sponsor MARION STROHMAN Art Editor PHIL WILLIAMS EdItor-in-Chief BASIL HUNT Assistant Editor CAROLYN WILLS Layout and Organization Manager MASON BENN Business Manager JOHN MULLIN Sports Editor JACK HARP Assistant Art Editor JERRY HARP Assistant Art Editor JANE COUCH Assistant Layout Manager MARTY SELLENRIEK Assistant Layout Manager 5 DR. It is a history, a novel, a dictionary, and a photograph album. For its purpose—the capturing of the sight, the smell, the taste of college—for its value—the preser- vation of memories, friendships, experiences in learning—the annual seals fast with a lid of glass the box containing a school year.
