SCOTT J. MILLER, the retiring President of the Board, is an attorney of Chillicothe and is connected with tin- Savings Bank of that city. He was appointed by Governor Stephens in 1S9G to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Hon. R. N. Bodine. who was elected to Congress, and was re-appointed by Governor Dockery in January. 1901. He was President of the Board for two years, retiring in February of this year; term expires in 1907. HON. W. T. CARRINGTON. State Superintend ent of Public Instruction and .r-uflicin member of the Board of It gents, is a native of the Kingdom of Callaway.” He is a graduate of McGee College and Westminster. He was graduated from the Kirksville State Normal with the Class of 1S7G. He , was lor two years Superintendent of Schools at Mexico and for ten years Principal of the Spring- field High School. DR. J. Y. MARTIN. Secretary of the Hoard of Regents, was born in Randolph County. Missouri; is of Kentucky parentage. Me was educated at Mc- Gee College, Macon County, in the vicinity of which he spent his boyhood: began the study of medicine in 1S75, attending lectures at Missouri Medical College. St. Ixmis. graduating in 1879. This college now forms part of Washington Uni- versity. Has been in continuous practice since, ex- cept the winter of 18S4. a part of which was spent attending lectures at the above named institution. Has been a resident of Kirksville for fifteen years. He was appointed a member of the Hoard by Gov. Stephens in 1X97: was elected Secretary in February, 1899: term expires in 1903. 13. F. HON. S. M. PICKLER. of Kirksvillo. is an ex- tensive real-estate owner and dealer in railroad timbers. Ho was teacher of Elocution. Logic. Rhet- oric. and Mathematics in the Kirksvillo Normal for five years. He has served three terms in the State Legislature, being elected to the House of Representatives in 1S7S. 1S96, and 1S98. He re- signed the nomination for fourth re-election to ac- cept the Republican nomination for Congress. Mr. Pickier was editor of the Kirksville ■hnintnl for seven years. He also has served as Mayor of Kirksville and Commissioner of Schools for Adair County. HON. J. M. HARDMAN, of Edina, was ap- pointed by Governor Dockery in January. 1901. He is a prominent merchant of Edina; is a stock- holder and director of the Ranking House of T. .1. Lycan; has served two terms as Circuit Clerk and Recorder of Knox County, and has an enviable record as a business man. His term expires in January, 1907. 25
