Every ship that puts to sea leaves in her wake wives, Sweethearts, parents and children. As the ships company looks forward to the excitement of foreign seas, those behind are left with only memories to fill the vacant space in their lives. That facing the dangers of a life at sea requires some courage, there can be no doubt. Often forgotten, however, is the quiet fortitude and loyalty demanded of those who stand on the shore watching the ship disappear over the horizon. These are singular qualities, founded in individual character and nurtured by patriotism, faith, and' love. To those who faithfully waitedg to those whose image we carried with us in our hearts, this book is respectfully and gratefully dedicated.
