September 19, 1986 was the official Cen- tennial kick-off, be- ginning a year full of events recognizing the achievements of Troy State University. Fall quarter brought in a host of activities, complete with a Homecoming spectac- ular, which proved to be a huge sue cess. One Homecoming night, Memorial Stadium was packed with Trojan fans ea- ger to see a fireworks display What the fans saw was more than they had bargained for as thousands of dollars of fireworks lit the sk to the oohs and ahs ' of the crowd. In addition to an awe-in- spiring fireworks display, the Homecoming Paradr one of the most colorful in the history of the parade For many years local bush men and politicians, (iui groups, and bands, in addi- tion to the TSU ente- have moved e er-so slowK through the streets of down- town Troy . In 1986, the Homecoming Parade was one of the most colorful e er, complete with clowns on go-carts, sounds of sundry bands, students c banting i beers and • recognizing Troy many campus organizations. DK Over its ten year history, the ACUB has booked such talents as Dolly Parton, Helen Ready, the Spinners, the Pointer Sisters, Hall and s Oates, and, in 1987, Huey Lewis (shown at right) and his g band, The News. 1 u r f ; 0«N»E H •U»N D»R-E D •«sm « mMr riimF9qi ■SPffP M .W!, Take a closer look at the arts at Troy State and you ' ll see a fine repertoire of gifted musicians and actors, award- winning plays and perfor- mances and skilled, inspiring artists. From outstanding in- dividual performances in the Miss Troy State University Pageant to a harmonious blend of voices in the Colle- giates ' Pops Concert, TSU has been blessed with talent and entertainment. The arts have flourished on campus during the Centen- nial year. Phi Mu Alpha Sin- fonia presented 100 Years of American Music, com- memorating music which has touched the lives of so many during Troy State ' s 100-year history. In addition, the 1987 Miss TSU Pageant saluted the Centennial year by recogiz- ing former Miss TSU ' s. Many of these ladies returned to be honored for their year repre- senting the university. Phi Mu Alpha ' s 100 Years of Music and the Miss TSU Review were just two of the multitude of events celebrat- ing the arts and TSU ' s Cen- tennial.
