Expressions Reveal a Sense of Belonging Being in the Heart of Dixie makes Troy State University traditionally friendly and hospi- table. Warm smiles and south- ern drawls are always with us. There is no doubt this slightly laid-back atmosphere is one of the attractions to the incoming freshman. At TSG one feels a sense of belonging almost immediately. There is so much to experience and learn. We see here some of the ex- pressions which reflect the way things really are. There are the crazy days, the happy times, the monotonous routines, and the moments of philosophical enlightenment. This and a lot more is what makes up campus life. Getting the ' Green ' ' Out What, besides summer school could lure twelve college students into spending summer break on the TSC1 campus? Why would any student live in a dorm and eat in Saga an extra eight weeks; for precollege ori- entation, of course. Each of the twelve student PCO leaders felt the importance of sharing their knowledge of what to expect and how to pre- pare for college life. A pea-green freshman wan- dering around campus, dumb- founded, overwhelmed and teary eyed could break any on- lookers heart. Thus, the orienta- tion leaders train for a week through specially designed seminar sessions which enable them to effectively and happily schedule, orient, and get the green out of incoming stu- dents. While there is serious work to be done, there is also lots of fun to be had! This year ' s crew of orientation leaders did some of their own training in the area of New TSCJ Tradition. The tra- ditions included the main quad being an ancient Indian burial ground, for which people had to remove their shoes to walk upon; the bushes behind Bibb Graves spelling out Troy State University in the Spring and the ampitheatre being the place to pop the big question. Two days of informative lec- tures from counselors and de- partment chairmans, introduc- tion games, a PCO skit, campus tours, a picnic, a Mr. and Miss. PCO pageant, new friends, mov- ies and a night on the town leave PCO students with the feeling that they got a taste of it all! — Natalie Baldwin Top right: Keith Pichanick leads a group of students on a campus tour.
