Troy State Expanding to Meet the Needs of Tomorrow The Sorrell Chapel, located in a natural wood setting overlook ing the lagoon, should be avail able for use by the end of Au gust. The Chapel s architecture is modeled after a minicathe dral; pews are constructed of wood, with kneeling benches, and the walls are covered oak paneling. Behind the sane tuary is a choir loft capable of holding twenty members, while there is room for one hundred people in the congregation Stained glass windows finish out the cathedral look Although there are no present plans for the Chapels use. In January, 1982, four new student houses were completed . and occupied by Troy State stu- f | Hdfll Ei • K . dents. These are leased and oc- 1 fc j 1 3 B HJ Jm7 cupied by the Sigma Pi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Theta Chi and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternities. Two houses previously com- pleted on Pell Avenue are leased and occupied by the Sigma Chi and Lambda Chi Fraternities. - % The housing was designed to 1 4 house individuals or groups and were constructed following sev- . eral years of research and plan- ning to determine the best hous- ing for meeting the needs of Troy State students now, and in the future. ■ - ' -.w-.-v.y.- ..Vijfcva. The 1981-82 school year has brought many successful im- provements for the Pace Base- ball Field at TSCJ. Twelve-thou- sand raised bleachers were put in along with new men and women ' s restrooms, and a new concession stand. Also, the field surface was upgraded. During Spring quarter, a new baseball equipment room and press box were built. The projected completion of a new lighting system during the 1982-83 year will complete the field ' s renovation. Mot including the lighting system, the cost of the baseball field ' s improvement was $70,000. These improvements of Pace Field has brought in larger crowds. Crowds and revenue were the largest in history for 1982. The new facilities and leader- ship qualities of Coach Riddle contributed to larger crowds. Since the baseball facilities available are so important for successful recruiting and an all around good season, the years ahead should get better and bet- ter for TSG baseball. 16 Expanding
