Title III new development at TS(J During the 1981-82 school year, Troy State complied with the Title III law of the Higher Education Act of 1965 by start- ing the Troy State University Development Project. Title III at Troy State is under the auspices of Dr. Angela Rolling. A certain amount of money has been allo- cated to TSU to sponsor four activities: the career develop- ment center, the math and natu- ral science tutorial lab, the writ- ing center, and the summer Pro- ject Success. Activity one: the Career De- velopment Center was started on October 1981 to serve as a resource center for students and faculty. The career center, located in Adams 125, has in its possessions an expanding verti- cal file with various information about different occupations. The career development center also contains the SOICC com- puter which contains informa- tion on available jobs in the na- tion and information concern- ing financial aid at colleges. The center offers self-improvement workshops to get computer preregistration. The Math and INautral Sci- ences tutorial lab was the sec- ond activity started on March 16, 1982. The lab was designed to assist students in the biologi- cal sciences, math, chemistry, and physics. There are two full- time instructors and five assis- tant tutors working in the lab. The lab has audio visual activi- ties and five microcomputers to help students. A dial-a-tutor pro- gram allows students to call in for tutorial help twenty-four hours a day. The lab is located at 209-B McCall Hall. On March 29, 1982, Activity III under the Title got underway. The Writing Center ' s main pur- pose is to improve the basic writing skills of students here at TSG. There are six tours in- volved in the program and two full-time instructors. The writ- ing center sponsored work- shops for students who wanted help in taking the English de- partmental. The Writing Center is located in the old ECE Learn- ing Center building. Title III also sponsored a spe- cial summer program called Project Success which utilizes staff members from the other three activities. Title III will be funded through September, 1983. It is anticipated that the success of the program will cause its con- tinuance. F 14 Development
