Upon the retirement of Dr. C. B. Smith, Dr. Frank Ross Stewart became President of Troy State College on July 1, 1961. Dr. Stewart received a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Jacksonville State in 1935; B.S. degree in Secondary Education from Alabama Polytechnic Institute in 1937; M.S. in School Administration from API in 1940; has done further graduate study at Columbia and Peabody; and received an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from Auburn University, December 18, 1959. Dr. Stewart taught and coached at Spring Garden High School and was also principal there for three years. From 1944-1952 he served as County Superintendent of Cherokee County Schools. From 1955-1958 Dr. Stewart served on the State Department of Education, becoming Superintendent in 1958. He married the former Margaret Turner of Piedmont and they have one son, Frank, Jr. r
