While on my routine check-up one morning I was pleasantly surprised to see Mary Ford Coen, taking time out from her busy schedule at Coen Ford Stock Broker's Exchange for an appendectomy. While visiting with Mary, we caught up with what our classmates of 1957 were doing. HARRY LADD - a Yale professor, won the Nobel Peace Prize for 1967. Our Advisors were Mrs. Robinson and Mr. Cordray. The students took part in F.H.A., F.F.A., Glee Club, Baseball and many other activities. When we went scampering back to our desks in '54, ready to start another year with our advisor, Mr. Miller, we had lost Larry Epling, Carole Fore, Paul McGown, and Bonnie Ice. Howard Williams did not stay with us long and David Swiger and Shirley Foutty had left in their Freshman year. Although we regretted the loss, we gained Nancy Fumer, Carole Bowman, Helen Cole, Joe Bowers, and Donna Gillian, which gave us a total of thirty-four Sophomores. The big event of the year, as every year, was our Fall Festival in which we took our part. We had a hilarious time dashing about helping to decorate and do other last minute jobs. The boys went out full of ambition and vigor for Basketball and Baseball under Coach Vance Vanneri. During this busy year of Biology and bean-shooters we lost Janice Russell and Nancy Fumer. In ’55 we came back with our advisor, Mrs. Kendall. Our classmates reduced to thirty-two although we did have three new students enroll: Harry Ladd, Rose Mary Cox, and Barbara McDonald. The big events of the year were the Junior-Senior Banquet and the Junior Class Play, It’s a Great Life. The Junior Class Play was a comedy. The cast consisted of Barbara McDonald, Carl Ackley, Janet Beyler, Harry Ladd. Janet Heck, Eddie McKnight, Patty Smeeks. Joe Bowers. Kenny Wines, Mary Ford, and Isabella Birkbeck. The Junior-Senior Banquet was a beautiful and successful occasion. Our theme was MOONLIGHT AND ROSES. We decorated with roses and had a wishing well. All the Juniors helped decorate and get ready for this festive occasion. We lost Carroll Kimes in a World Series during the year and unfortunately he didn't make it back. In '56 we came back with the thoughts of Graduating. Our class had reduced to 31. We had lost Barbara McDonald and Joe Bowers soon left as he was Navy bound. Our class worked very hard to make money to go on a trip. The newspaper staff spent a very busy year getting out the school paper THE TROY TIMES. Also the Annual Staff spent much time in preparation for the Annual THE TROJAN. We regretted very deeply the death of our Coach Mr. Vance Vanneri. In this year of tenseness and excitement we studied quite hard, yet we annoyed our teachers a little on the side, too. WE WISH TO THANK OUR PARENTS AND THE TEACHERS WHO HAVE MADE MANY SACRIFICES TO MAKE OUR EDUCATION POSSIBLE. Mary V.
