The aim in Home Economics course today is to train the school girl to homemaking activities so that she will be awake to her many responsibilities and be able to assume them. Xo longer, therefore, can “Cooking and Sewing” or “Sanitation and Hyftiene” be justified as a complete course offered in Home Economics. Home Eco-omics Courses offered include the spending and managerial aspects of the home, child development, home and community relationships, home building and furnishing, decorating, art and science, conservation of the health of the family, food selection, preparation and serving, selection care and construction of clothing. The Home Economics department of Troy High School is one of the best equipped in the county, as the Board of Education and the Civic Association have been very helpful to the Department, and this help has been appreciated by every one. The Board of Education has purchased blinds, cooking utensils, cans, glasses, silverware, two sets of irons, and six reference books, for the department this year. The girls have served meals and sold pop corn for various occasions, and the money has been spent on repairs for sewing machines, flag, dishes, and other equipment for the Department. The Civic Association has purchased enough dishes and silverware to serve complete dinner for two hundred and forty persons. The china is plain white and the glassware clear. The silver has the monogram of T. H. S. They also purchased 24 lockers for the sewing room. This has been a very successful and an enjoyable year for all the girls. page twenty-three
