Dian —1976 Sweetheart Dian Reisner was crowned the new Troy FFA Chapter Sweetheart for 1976-1977 by President Mack Jarrett, Wednesday, November 24, in the VoAg shop. First runner-up was Mary Huss and Patty Speaks was second. The contestants were required to turn in a half-page essay on Why 1 Want to Be FFA Sweetheart. Then came the contest, the real test for the eleven junior girls participating. The seven different events were to catch a greased pig, climb a greased rope, catch and tie a goat, throw a bale of hay, milk a cow into a pop bottle, hammer a nail in a block of oak and identify twenty-five different tools. Afterward, Mr. Barnett and last year's Sweetheart, Jackie Petersen, asked the girls questions, testing their general farm knowledge. The other girls competing for the title were Denise Etherton, Debbie Duncan, Debbie Clary, Laura Johnson, Debbie Winzer, Nellie Hoverson, Paula Culp and Shelly Staudenmaier. They were escorted by Mack Jarrett, Bill Whetstine, John Zeltwanger, Mark Stock, Steve Franken, Mike Masters, Bernard Sutton, Bill Callahan, Alan Winkel, Joe Neumann and Dave Owens. The judges for the events were Jerry Gardner, Jim Patton, Buddy Ross, Warren Grable Jr., Tom Smith and Ron Tuley. Midnight Fire provided the music for the dance following the contest. You brute, you bully, why did you beat up on my little «liter! Rose says as she slaps John. As the curtain opens, the three oldest girls are discussing plans for the coming World’s Fair. Their thoughts include their boyfriends, who influence their lives greatly. Meanwhile, Agnes and Tootie are planning chaos for Mrs. Waughop. The love between Lon and Sally has become a topic of discussion between the children. Rose has special feelings for John Shepard and Esther has it in for Fred Gregory. As Mr. Smith breaks the news of moving to New York, the girls unite for action. which nearly lands them in jail. In a dramatic reversal, they finally win through to a solution that not only gets Father the better job in St. Louis, but also straightens out romantic complications. Page 29
