DONNA LEUSZLER-Language Arts MS, Fort Hays State Never say 'I Can't.' MARTHA ROC KEY-English BA, Kansas State University Please be quiet. CAROL MIX-Language Arts BMC, Kansas University Oh, really. Mrs. Martha Rockey was new to the English depart- ment this year. She sponsored the yearbook and junior class. Mrs. Babetta Israel returned to THS second semester. She had a daughter Marcie Lynn, Oct. 1, and spent first semester at home enjoying the company of her new baby. Mr. Bob Wallace taught English this year as well as foreign languages. He taught the new mini courses, Vocabulary for H. S. and College Bound Students, History of the English Language, and To Build a Language. Other new courses were Grammar and Spelling Re- view, Remedial Reading and Spelling, Fundament- als of Speech, the Poetic Experience, and two new literature courses, Early American and Modem American Literature. Mrs. Carol Mix and Mrs. Israel each taught a sec- tion of the new mini course, Life Ideas. Students taking the course studied about different philosophies of life, and experienced various aspects of life, such as learning how to do the laundry and how to cook. 8

LYLE ROC KEY, JR. - History; BSE, KSTC Emporia Simply Teachers' Duties Varied New this year to THS was Mr. Lyle Rockey, Jr. who taught American history, government, and world histo- ry. He was assistant junior high football coach, head junior high basketball coach, and sponsor of the junior class. Miss Janet Guier brought in a new course this year at THS, Library Science, in which the students studied about the library, and how to file cards and replace books on the shelves. She was also senior class sponsor. Again this year Mr. William Foster taught general sci- ence, chemistry, and biology. As in the past, he was cross country coach and assistant track coach. To those coaching duties, this year he added senior high B-team basketball. He also sponsored the freshman clas.:. WILLIAM FOSTER - Lab Science; MS, University of Chicago Bear Down. 10
