THS Annual Staff Presents The 1970-71 TROJAN Unified School District No. 429 Troy, Kansas Page 3 Page 11 Page 25 Page 41 Page 61 On, Trojans, down the field. Fight on for Troy High. And may our school be victorious. We'll never say die. And with the glory and honor Of Troy's Sons' great might. We'll fight and win for our colors. The Blue and White! FIGHT! FIGHT! l The school year 1970-71 brought the students of Troy High through a period of revival. It was a year in which the millstone of apathy was thrown off, and the students came to the suface revived. Youthful exuberance has been converted into the raw power of activism at Troy High. The young people swelled the ranks of every organization. They provided the feet in every march, the sweat in every task, the heart in every compassionate end. They sought their right to an education. With that education as a beginning, these young people anticipate the events that lie ahead. Our hope for those future events rests in the goals they seek, the changes they wish to make. Dedicated to these vital changes, young men and women reach out for their dreams. To these young people—the Youth of Troy High -we dedicate this annual. % Nell Larzelefe, Sec. U.S.D. 429 School Board Lauren Gaddis, Superintendent J. Masters. N. Davies (not pictured B. Modern Times be- gan with a renascence, one of the rare periods of genius in the world's history. The word renascence means revival . It refers to the rediscovery by scholars of ancient writings. In fact, the renas- cence was a period of discovery in many fields—of new forms of art and litera- ture, of new lands, including America. Men became fascinated with the world about them. The fuller appreciation of all these things, however, is perhaps the most distinctive feature of any renascence. The staff of the TROJAN has chosen the word RENASCENCE for its theme. The school year 1970-71 was a period of revival for the students of Troy High School. We started at the foundation and expanded in many ways. Our enroll- ment was increased by the combination of the junior and senior high schools. We also had a larger teaching staff. The football and basketball teams brought home many victories, helping to build school spirit, as did the feeling that every- one was involved and had helped. The students of Troy High School have rediscovered the spirit of the early 1960's. 8 9 SENIORS Linda Albers Gary Barnthson Eugene Boeh Julie Boeh Bill Boeh Patricia Buch Russell Clary Dennis Culp Willena Dawe Terry Dishon Roselyn Drake Clifford Ernzen Eddie Eylar Marilee Gaither Barbara Gardner Suzan Harris Sheila Hegarty Penny Horner Jerry Jackson Pamela Jones 12 Mark Jorgensen Russell Karn Kent Luedke Bill McNemee Ted Miller Dale Miner Vachel Murphy Jane Neumann Shirley Norris Dennis Peden Dow Pierce Tom Pierce Doyle Prawl Pat Reeder Glenda Ruhnke Rosa Ruhnke Joe Sanderson Carol Scholz Ronnie Sharp Jackie Simpson 13 Mark Smith Tom Speak Paul Staudenmaier Lynda Tetlow Mike Thornton Marcia Whetstine Steve Wiedmaier Donald Winder Diane Winder Virginia Winkel 14 SENIOR DIRECTORY Albers, Lioda-Pep Club 1,2.3.4, Cheerleader 2,3.4; Stuco. 3, Kayettes 3,4; Sr. play; Homecoming Queen Attendant; NHS; BB Homecoming Attendant. Helen 22,72 79 EDITOR’S PAGE The main goal of the 1971 TROJAN Staff was to capture the important and meaningful events of the past year. This year has had its own meaning for each individual and we have tried to make every student a part of this book. I would like to thank our sponsor, Mr. Wilfahrt, my assistant editor, the members of the staff, and the many other people who cooperated and gave their time to help make the 1971 TROJAN possible. The theme of the annual Renascence was chosen because it not only applies to THS but applies to each person. Each day in itself is a rebirth, so renascence is more than a theme for an annual; it is a theme for life. Sincerely, Glenda Ruhnke
