The Annual Staff Troy High School Troy, Kansas Presents the 63 Trojan Foreword As our high school year draws to a close, we look back with fond memories on those wonderful times we spent at Troy High. This annual will serve as a lasting memory. We. the Trojan '63 Staff, have done our best to compile this year's events. We hope we have included memories for each and everyone of you and that you enjoy reading this annual as much as we have enjoyed working on it. I would like to thank my capable assistants for all of the help and consideration they have given to make the Trojan '63 one of the best. Joyce Bennett Editor-in-Chlef Contents Dedication Faculty Classes Athletics Activities Organizations Dedication We, the annual staff, wish to dedicate the '63 TROJAN to our principal, Mr. Ginter. We are extremely grateful for his encour- agement, cooperation, and hard work during our high school years. We feel he Is certainly worthy of this award because of his untiring efforts In our behalf. School Board RAYMOND TWOMBLY Director BEN WILLIAMSON Clerk RAYMOND GAUL Treasurer PRINCIPAL M. M. GINTER B.S., and M.S., Kansas Scate University The Principal's Message: What is it going to take to make Americans wake up to the fact that they are taking too many things for granted, such as freedom, private enterprise and educational opportunities? Is it possible that the people of this country may have to lose some or all of these precious things before they learn to appreciate them? Are we going to wake up and do something about it be- fore it is too late? Perhaps the teenagers of today have the answers to these vital questions. M. M. Ginter Principal Office Secretary MRS. M. M. GINTER Teachers fi) We feel that this school Is for- tunate in having a faculty of such fine quality. The faculty works uncomplainingly and with little recognition, pounding knowledge into the impenetrable depths of the student's heads. They are the core the heartbeat of any school system. It required time for the new. inexperienced players to get adjusted and learn to work to- gether as a team. As the season progressed, the Trojans improved their gridiron skill. Led by six able seniors, luck changed. Starting with the Wathena game the team started a winning streak that continued to the close of the season. It was a very enjoyable evening for every- one. Queen Carol Taylor Escort, Kenneth Deshon F.F.A. Barnwarmer SHERRY JUHL F.F.A. Sweetheart The F.F.A. Barnwarmer was held on November 10, 1962. The girls were given tests in shelling corn, filling a grease gun. and drinking what they be- lieved was goat's milk (heated cow's milk). Everyone had fun learning to square dance. American Education Week During American Education Week, our parents went back to school. Each parent was given his son's or daughter's schedule for the day. That evening the parents assembled in the audito- rium to be oriented on what to do during their shortened periods. Each teacher ex- plained what they were doing or were going to do in their classes. After their shortened school day, the parents were served refreshments in the Lunchroom. Back-to-School” F.F.A. Green Hand Initiation A Green Hand is a freshman member of Vocational-Agriculture. The entire student body certainly enjoyed this year’s initiation. Parents’ Appreciation Banquet Dear Parents: On behalf of the Troy High School Key Club, it is my pleasure to invite you to attend the Parents' Appreciation Banquet. It is to be held in the Troy High School gymnasium, Monday, November 26, at 7:00 p.m. We are honoring you, our parents, at this banquet because of all the time and energy you have devoted to us. Through this banquet, we hope to show a small portion of our great appreciation. I sincerely hope you will attend. Sincerely yours, Gary Moser. Secretary Sunflower County Government Our representatives for Sunflower County Government Day were elected by the student body in primary and general elec- tions. These students visited the county offices to which they were elected and observed what each county official is re- sponsible for doing. Upon returning, each representative re- ported what he had done and seen to an assembly of die student body. The representatives had an eventful and en- joyable day. The Sunflower County Government Day was sponsored by the American Legion. School Bus Romance” The Troy High School presented a one- act play entitled School Bus Romance at Midway High School on February 14, 1963. This was for the K-36 League One-Act Play Contest. The following students were in the afternoon presentation of the play: Phyllis Karming. Charlotte Burkhart. Patricia Moser, If you kids don't. . Martha Zimmerman, Gary Huss, Gary Moser. Stanley Ruhnke, David Moore. Diana Seller. Annie Freeman. Sharon Harter. John Peden, Sherry Juhl, Mike Walter, Roger Whetstine, and LaMonte Schoenfelder. Mr. Ginter was the director and Joyce Bennett was his student assistant. This play demon- strated how a romance on a school bus was carried on.
