“One morning as I was waiting for the band members of Kansas University to take their places, I heard someone come up be- hind me and say, Why, hello there, Myrnal What are you doing here? As I turned around, I was surprised to see Patt Mullen. I told her that I was the band director at the Kansas Univer - sity. Then I asked her if she had the low-down on the class of '52. This is what she said. Well, to start with, my divorce from my sixth husband just became final. (Look out, men!11) Charlie Calnan has Just been promoted to editor-in-chief of the Kansas Chief. Paul Garren is the general manager of the Troy Disposal Plant. Jim Clary is the manager of the St. Louis Cardinals. Ronnie Clary is one of the leading veterinaries in St. Joe. Now for the most Important part of Troy High, the faculty . Mr. Trogdon has retired and R. V. Clary has taken his place as principal. Raymond Weinberg is the new head coach. Oh, say, I saw Bill Wykert, too. He is still trying to get out of American History. I guess that takes care of the faculty. You would be sur- prised to know that R. L. Clary has taken the place of the great singer, Johnnie Ray. The Fire House Five Plus Two has a new blues singer, Carole Ruhnke. Bill Jasper has taken Clark Gable's place in the movies. Fred Astaire's new dancing partner is Barbara Thompson. I wonder if she has learned to dance on the ceiling yet. Pee Wee Hunt's band has changed a little bit. Wava Holzhey is his new pianist. Patricia Knar p has done pretty well for herself, too. She is now the solo flutist with the St. Louis Philharmonic Orche- stra. Ellen Howland is singing with Guy Lombardo's orchestra on the Hit Parade. Cleo Chavez is secretary to the governor of Kansas. Duane Hunsaker has stayed close at home and is now the pres- ident of the Doniphan County Apple Association. Mary Lou Ingram has Joined the Waves to keep track of Dan. She's getting the job done, too. Harold Hartman married the boss's daughter and is now vice- president of the Concert Laundry and Dry Cleaning in St. Joe. Johnny McKernan is a world champion prize-fighter. JoAnne McKernan is an old maid living in Iowa Point and is raising chinchillas. Margaret Meng has gone far. She married a rich dairyman and raises Ayrshires in western Kansas. Dwayne Snodgrass is a circus barker with Ringling Bros. Circus. Gordon Murphy is the owner of Murphy's Bar and Grill in St. Joseph, Missouri. Patty Sportsman has taken the Job as a saxophone instructor at Bennett College in Mississippi. And last but not least, Louise Sutton is the head nurse at the Missouri Methodist Hospital in St. Joseph. By that time all the band members had taken their places and they were ready to start. So we told each other good bye and went our ways. —12—
