We owe our teachers deep gratitude for their patient and unselfish efforts to instll in us a desire for better living. Education makes us better citizens T by increasing our understanding of'the ideals and problems of this great land. This understanding will aid both our personal and national growth, and be a basis for peaceful and prosperous relations with other nations. Therefore, as a class we express our thanks to our teachers and dedicate ourselves to the perpetuation of a larger and better Troy High School for those - who follow us. As you know, it is no easy job to keep an eye on all these actors and actresses. He doesn't mind keeping his eyes on the actresses. It doesn't affect your eyesight, does it Wilbur? Can you beat this? Richard Palmer, the short little boy, is new an owner of a very large night club located in London. He is having a tough time making a living for his wife. The last time we saw him, he looked so old we could hardly believe it was he, when we were introduced to him. As the years pass swiftly, we find that J. Q. Woodman has finally found the 'Peg 0' His Heart.' We find Dorothy Riley, one of his old flames, cooking for the little 'J. Q's.' Mr. and Hrs. Woodman have recently taken over the Strongwall Cotton Mills in Cannelton., Hrs. Woodman has a hard time staying at home, knowing that there are so many pretty girls working in these mills. Ruth Collignon is now owner of one of the largest beauty salons in this country. In less than one year she will be happily married to Dr. Alfred Snyder. Their motto will be Curl and Cure'. Carl Wannlnger has recently acquired a new l96O Ford. While in high school, he drove an old green ford. This new ford is red with green wheels, and has large white stripes running in different directions. Jo Ola Aldridge is now living in New Albany. She is married to a tall, dark, and handsome man. They are operating the 'Dugout', a large restaurant. This sign greets you as you walk in--'Once in, Never 0ut.' As we gaze a little longer, we find Cora Cash owning a large Roller Rink. She gives information regularly about skating parties etc., over WTCJ. Charlie Kuntz seems to be one of her most regular customers. It seems that Charlie not only likes to skate but he likes Cora's company. Kenneth Wittman is one of the most prosperous farmers around Evanston. In his spare time he is looking for some girl who will make a lonely farmer a good wife. Why not live on a farm? You will get plenty of sunshine and 7 7 1 1 William Cshortiol Rust is now known as the fastest man in basketball. Ho will soon take over the job of coaching the 'Troy Tornadoes,' as Paul Hasterson is unable to coach for a while. We wonder why. Hazel Howe is married to Clotus Fortwendel. They have taken over the Fortwendel Clothing store. Kr. Fortwendel is kept busy in the store while Hazel is kept busy with the house work and the increase in the family. Helen Schulthise has a movie contract with H. G. M. and is known as, 'Kiss Atomic Blonde of l955'. She has been starring in several pictures with guys like Gregory Wreck, Bumphrey Hogart and Robert Runner. Helen will soon be mar- ried to that handsome follow, Dennis Morgan. Wish we could capture somebody like that. As we gaze a while longer into our crystal ball, we see none other than Charles Hattenbach. He is now manager of the Hattenbach Construction Company. This large shipbuilding firm is located on the banks of the beautiful Ohio near Troy. We see that he is engaged in this business alone as he is still as bash- ful as he used to be. In five years Bonita will have just graduated from Danville Business College. Ten years from now Vera M. Winkler will still be an old maid and very much pleased. As we continue to gaze into this crystal ball, our vision becomes so blurred, that we cannot see the figures of this group any longer. JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY As August, 1945 drew near, twenty-seven students from various schools were planning to enter Troy High School to get a higher education. These eager pu- pils were: Charles Brinksneader, John Brock, James Kuntz, Donald Poole, Joe Saunders, Maurice Shepard, Roy Wise, Charles Young, Betty Lou Abney, Berneta Anthony, Priscilla Cravens, Juanita Edwards, Juanita Engelbrecht, Helen Epple, Mildred Foerster, Edna Hessig, Clara Ann Lamar, Betty Lorenz, Melinda Munier, Charleen Moore, Mary Iris Scott, Betty Jean Snyder, Mildred Sturgeon, Lucille Weedman, Olive June Wheeler, Norma Winchell, and Margorie Winkler. Before we had completed one week of work, Betty Lou Abney and Mildred Sturgeon withdrew. And so the twenty-five went on together until December, when Joe Saunders also withdrew and moved to Kentucky. Of course we thought that there would be no more withdrawals during the rest of our Freshman- year, but we thought wrong. With the death of her mother, Olive June Wheeler with- drew and in the early part of April, Berneta Anthony withdrew. Thus our class was left with a net result of twenty-two. Freshman officers were: president-Mary Iris Scott, vice-president-Charles Young, secretary-treasurer-Maurice Shepard, student council members-Don Poole and Juanita Edwards, class reporter-Betty Jean Snyder. Mr. Munier was our class sponsor. Our class was well represented on the basketball squad. All the boys ex- cept Roy Wise were on the team. Juanita Engelbrecht won the Sewing Award and also first place in the style show. When we came back to school for another year of education, we found that Charles Brinksneader, John Brock, James Kuntz, Don Poole, Edna Hessig, Betty Lorenz, and Charleen Moore had not returned. During this year, Juanita Edwards was elected cheer leader and the three and only boys were out for the team. Sophomore officers were: president-Juanita Engelbrecht, v1ce-pres1dent- Betty Jean Snyder, secretary-treasurer-Juanita Edwards, Student council-Maurice Shephard and Mary Iris Scott, reporter-Edwards. As we bade farewell on the closing day of school of our Sophomore year, we thought we would all meet here again in the next September to start the third year in our interesting educational project. Again we thought wrong--Roy Wise was going to school at Louisville and has now joined the navy, Mary Iris Scott has started to school at Evansville, Helen Epple and Juanita Edwards remained at home, Norma Winchell enrolled at Troy High and also at Tell City High where she is now going to school. Charles Young quit school in the early part of the first semester of this school year. Mildred Foerster quit school in the latter part of the last semester. And now we shall complete our Junior year with seven girls and one boy. With the one and only boy, Maurice Shephard on the basketball team and with Priscilla Cravens as a cheer-leader, our class did its part to bring the Trojan team victories. When we were Freshmen we had seven boys in our class, thus we could enter the class tourney. We entered but for no good cause as the class of '48 won the tourney. The other years we have not had enough boys in the class to enter in the tourney as a class, therefore as Sophomores we entered with the Grades. Since there is only one boy in the class this year we will not compete in the tourney. Junior Class officers are: president-Melinda Munier, vice-president Maurice Shephard, secretary-treasurer-Clara Lamar, student-couno1l- Maurice Shephard and Priscilla Cravens. Priscilla is also our reporter. Since next year will be the last year of fun, work, and trials we will have together we will work hard to make the rest of this year a success so we may have the privilege and thrill of receiving our diplomas together. ,.--V-v---1 -... ,. .W xg! We won the other three class tourneys though............ The time Jim Pearson and Johnny Gladhart broke the bookcase door with the orange they got at the Christmas party. Poor boys, it took their Christmas funds, and even part of their vacation to pay for and to fix 1t............How mad we got when we couldn't take a bus to Lynnv1lle............How we disliked having our picnics at Lincoln Ferry Park in our Freshman and Sophomore years... .........The good times the soliciters had at Tell City when they went after ads for the Trojan and the annual............The fun we had preparing for our Junior-Senior outing, also the fuss we had about the chickens during Literature class............How hard we worked popping pop corn after school in our Junior year. We certainly worked hard--eating so muchl............The times we got out of school for soft ball games, also the trip several of us took to Oil Township to attend one of these games............The fun we had taking pictures in the snow for the annual............The fun we had at the skating party, and how everybody 'dusted' the floor.
