I hope you will con- sider my application very closely. All great men seem to have been born in the month of February. I, too was born in that month. The great eman- cipator, Abraham Lincoln and I were born on the same day, February 22, but a few years apart,so consider my appli- cation. X Forever Yours, Royal Lincoln MR. VARNER--BAND Dear Board Members: If you are not yet music lovers, you will be when I come to your school. I can play any instrument but a trom- bone, claronet, oboe, and flute, which aren't important anyway. I can play the scale from the front and from the back on the piano and can play the saxophone without any complaining from the neigh- bors. I'm not saying anything about my singing, because to lead a band, you do not have to have a voice. Please give me a chance, because when I get mad I can really teach your children to play. Sincerely Yours, Mr. Varner a
