'uf ,-g.---- - -.-., ,. CORONATION OF BASKETBALL QUEEN A very impressive ceremony accom- panied the coronation of the basketball queen at the Band Carnival on November 30. The queen was elected by votes that were received from the sale of senior play tickets. There were twelve candi- dates for queen namely: Leona Weise- meyer, Virginia Koch, Betty Jane Thomas Geneva Wooten, Verna Drlque, Pauline Schmerbauch, Eloise Schoon,M1llie-Marie Collins, Mildred Jones, Betty Jean Rood Waltona Eilers, and Virginia Poli. The queen's throne stood under one of the baskets. The throne was decor- ated with shining purple and white sat- in. The platform of the throne was cov- ered with soft green grass. The queens identity was kept a se- cret untll the time of coronation. The maids were escorted to the throne to the rhythm of nPomp and Circumstancen, by the basketball squad,as escorts. Mu- sic was furnished by several members of the band. They entered in this order: Leona Weisemeyer and Delbert Hanke,Vir- ginia Koch and Billy Lewis, Betty Jane Thomas and Joe Nemnich, Geneva Wooten, and Alfred Welder, Eloise Schoon and Gene Lyons, Millie-Marie Collins and Marvin May, Mildred Jones and Gene Stein, Betty Jean Rood and Jack Weir, Pauline Schmerbauch and Charles Geb- hart, Verna Drique and Merle wohlge- muth, Waltona Eilers and Virgil Geb- hart, and Virginia Poli and Ray Maden The crown bearer, Lionel Isenberg, came after the maids and escorts. He was wearing a beautiful white satin suii trimmed with gold bra1d,and carry- ing the crown on a white satin pillow. The queen's crown was composed of fresh flowers, white chrysanthemums with a satin ribbon. The honor of crowning the queen went to Alfred Auwarter. The queen for 1940-41 was Millie-Marie Col- llns. Her majesty received a beautiful bouquet of roses from an admirer of hers shortly after she was seated on the throne. After the coronation, pic- tures were taken of the queen, her attendents and court. Her majesty's formal varied in color from azure to marine blue with a slight train. Her corsage was of orange and white sweet peas. Millie-Marie made a pretty queen as she stately sat on the throne, with her attendents at her side.
