. A ' l 4 GERMAN BAND A new and different idea organized by Mr. Varner developed into a novelty, German band. The purpose for organizing the band was to play at the Band Carni- val--to attract and draw crowds to all places of activity at the carnival. Mr. Kamm led the German band as it went from one concession to another. He was a colorful figure wearing a straw hat,wav1ng a cane for a baton and burst ing forth in his deep bass voice, sing- ing in German, the words to the songs. Dick Howe with his overflowing stomach and large, black mustache kept the crowd at the carnival roaring. Omar Russell Hampton carried the beverage for the band and he kept cutting capers. His gaudy suspenders carried the extra weight of a pillow those nights. Eu- gene Schrameck in his red shirt and derby, made plenty of noise with his bass horn. Oliver Arth and Jimmie Cra- vens just could not stand still. They were full of rhythm. Jule Kamm went to town on his clarinet and was very inter ested in his green hat. Robert Taake just about blew the bell off his trom- bone and he kept time to the music with one foot. Later Bill Holshouser joined. A O BAND CARNIVAL The McCray-Dewey High School Band sponsored an indoor carnival on Novem- ber 29 and 50 at the high school. On November 29, the main events of the evening were: 8:00 P. M. -- a band concert given by the high school band: 9:00 P. M. -- 'The Trojann, a movie of students and faculty members at the Lutheran and public grade schools, high school, and other neighboring rural schools: 9:40 P. M. -- 'Magic Shown by Mr. Roy Mayer of Troy: 10:30 P. M. -- drawing for attendance prize won by Dorothy Dunstan. On November 50, the main events of the evening were: 8:00 P. M. -- 'Dusky Cloudsu, a minstrel show given by the high school Glee Club: 9:00 P. M. -- 'The Trojann: 9:40 P. M. -- drawing of prizes. Refreshments of all kinds were served and the concessions of both ev- enings were: Cake Walk, Gypsy Tea Room which was in the Home Economics Room and decorated in various bright colors with the waitresses dressed as gypsies, Land of Fortunes with Mr. Brucker as the seer, Freak Show and various guess- ing games.
