H. S. more than 150 strong, or so we thought until we were put in our place by the dignified seniors of that year. During the course of the year, several of the frosh went to Miami to participate in the Scholarship Tests while others won honors in the American Legion Essay Contest. As sophomores. we were formally introduced to high school society, and many of our members were active in the Girl Reserves, Hi-Y, and other extra-curricular activities. Again, several o-f our students won honors in the Miami Scholarship Tests, and oth- ers assumed leading roles in the Van Cleve Vanities and the operetta, Oh Doctor! Our junior year was even more eventful than the others had been. Under the leadership of James Agna, David Galbreath. Mione Martin, and Paul Hildebrand, we not only completed successfully all the junior activities, but also set a fine example of patriotism for the entire student body by instituting Junior Bond Week, a war activity, novel in the history of the school. As seniors, we looked with greatest pride upon our contributions to the war effort. Our greatest pride, naturally, rested with those of our class who had been called to the service of our countryg but at school the members of the class were busy buying war bonds and stamps, helping in various scrap drives, working after school in war plants, and taking part in the dedication of the school service flag. However, we also excelled in other fields. For example, in schdarship, six of our students, Barbara Hansford, Mione Martin, Marilyn Klser, Elizabeth Edminson, Virginia Herman, and Olive Snedeker became members of the National Honor Society and fifteen of our number took the Senior Scholarship Test: in sport, the football team, composed largely of seniors, had a highly successful season, and the basketball team with three senior regulars won the Miami Valley League co-championship and ad- vanced to the finals of the district tournament at Daytong in music, several of us appeared in the annual operetta, Tune In. As class officers. we chose Murray Dalton, David Galbreath, Mione Martin, and Desmond Wolfe. They led us through all our class projects and the senior activities including the senior play, The Importance of Being Earnest , the senior dinner, the Junior-Senior Prom, Baccalaureate, and finally Commencement itself. As the 107 members of the class of '44 go forward to the days of the future, they join together in saying, WHAT WE ARE TO BE, WE ARE NOW BECOMING.
