S ' Glauadida Entering Troy High School as freshmen in September 1939, we students, now seniors, tasted our first year of high school life. We liked the flavor, so we stayed on and proved our ability not only in scholastic work, but also in sports and other extra-curricular activities as well. As sophomores, We continued to be outstanding in scholastic and extra- curricular activities. Since 1940 was an eventful year-for it was the year Franklin D. Roosevelt Was elected President of the United States of America for his third term-We were all Democrats or Republicans, and we had our friendly squabbles about who should be President, Roosevelt or Wilkie. In our junior year, We participated in more club organizations and a great majority of us took part in the Van Cleve Vanities, the annual operetta, and other activities. Five of our fellow classmates became members of the National Honor Society. They were Phyllis Frye, Joan Hiatt, Betsy Lee Porter, Juanita Millet, and David Meeker. Now, as seniors, we can proudly say that We have had a successful fourth year at T. H. S. Paramount in the thoughts and activities of seniors has been our contribution to the war effort. We have Worked in local war indus- tries, in both offices and factories. Some of our boys have joined the armed forces before graduating, and others Will follow suit after Commencement. Bond sales, scrap drives, gasoline and food rationing have given us many opportunities to serve our government. Many classes have dealt directly with the induction training program. Class meetings, parties, publishing the Trojan , and happy association with our friends filled any spare minutes in the busy year. ' Commencement strengthened bonds of friendship and brought a deeper affection for T. H. S. as each member of the class of '43 set out for new fields of adventure and service.

Thomas PLOT OF THE PLAY Opening scenes are shown in Lucerne in the late summer of 1939, when some girls are returning to school after summer vacation. Miss Hunter, the wise and agreeable schoolmistress, helps them live a content and busy life, oblivious of the burning hatred and bitter attitude growing throughout the world. During the evenings, the girls customarily read their letters from home to one another Despite Miss Hunter's attempts to keep the school isolated from the terrible things ensuing because of the war, the letters which the girls read reveal the bitterness which they had not known prevailed. News from Poland is deplor- able. and though the German girl is not responsible for the destruction brought about by her countrymen, she is continually blamed. Before the curtain falls, the girls receive word that Hans, a German soldier and Olga's lover, was ordered to bomb Warsaw. Rather than endanger the lives of many of 0lga's family and friends in that city, Hans, unlike his heartless com- rades, ends his own life by deliberately crashing his plane.
