Cfadd Maier? We finish to begin is the motto chosen by our class of 1938. Finishing our grade school period in 1934-, we entered Troy High School 180 strong. Although we fumished hilarious amusement for the upperclassmen, we soon felt ourselves a part of an active, progressive student body. We contributed one program to the students' public appearance during our freshman year. It was an entertainment for the P. T. A. Our sophomore year marked an entrance into the sports and the activities of the school, many of our classmates leaming the fundamentals of athletic, club, and music work. With the finishing of training, came superiority and responsibility. We, as a junior class, gave two chapels, the Junior Revue and a farewell chapel for the seniors, and helped in planning the three Junior-Senior parties. Seven of our class, Helen Barklow, Ruth 'Dinsmore, Lois Landis, Laura Belle Saxton, Daisy Shaffer, Roger Biser, and Charles Heater entered the National Honor Society, and thirty-one juniors received athletic letters. The junior girls won the basketball championship of the year. The members of this team were June Grimes, Ellen Chaffee, Helen Carson, Helen Barklow, Charlotte Vegelin, Janice Nelson, Ann Warwick, Janet Campion, and Dorothy Wilson. Many of our class helped in winning first place for Troy in the district scholarship tests at Miami University. Wiser, and a little older, we began our senior year, ready to shoulder the responsibilities and experiences of a Senior Class. We participated in every branch of the school program by emphasizing scholarship, athletics, service, and leadership. Charles Heater won a 8300 scholarship at Oberlin College for work in history. Ellen Chaffee was the first girl drum major in the record of Troy High School. The Van Cleve Vanities, with seniors at the head, was a tremendous success. We also had a successful Senior Authority Day. The following seniors became members of the National Honor Society: Homer Rapp, Maribelle Morrin, Kay Cross, Charlotte Vegelin, Kent Hodell, Harold DeGroff, William Chaney, and Elnora Mount. Work on the Trojan began early in the year. The Senior play Lady of Letters, was presented May 27. Reverend Carl Winters preached the Baccalaureate sermon, and the three students with the highest honors Charles Heater, Ruth Dinsmore, and Roger Biser delivered orations at Commence- ment. After the commencement address, Mr. Frank C. Montross, president of the school board, presented the graduates with their diplomas.
