The jewel of our thinclads last spring, of course, was Jim Pouget; state champion eight-hundred-eighty yard runner. Jim made the double trip around the quarter mile oval in the remarkable time of 2:0 2.8 minutes. Jim was second highest point obtainer as well as state champion. Troy’s runners copped a trophy in the mile relay at the annual Central Michigan Relays heldat Central Michigan College in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Jim Pouget, Fred Burnard, Tom Petterson, and Eugene Tomko covered the mile course in near record setting time—Two hundred yards ahead of the nearest contender. This was Troy High’s first track trophy.

(Not in picture - G. Dila) During the 1954-55 school year, Troy’s Debate squad participated in both the Detroit Metropolite League and the State General Debate Schedule. These included the following schools: Romeo, Warren, Detroit Redford Union, Birmingham, Hazel Park, Royal Oak, and University of Detroit High School. : Due to a winning season, Troy was invited to enter the Regional Elimination Tournament at Melvindale, and to compete withteams from Walled Lake, Northville, Clarkston, Utica, Detroit Redford Union, St. Clair Shores Lakeview, and Melvindale. Troy was defeated in the Regional finals by Melvindale. Pat Cullen, Betty Kujala, Nancy Taylor, and George Dila represented Troy in this Tournament. The entire squad deserves the thanks and congratulations of all students for the fine representation they gave Troy this season.
