Vol. I BANDIT CAUGHT FLEEING SCENE OF CRIME Last night at 12:15, an un- identified bandit broke into the gas Station of Alan Bise and stole $700 in cash and $300 in checks. As he was fleeing from the station, Sgt. Sally Dale of the Troy Police Department called for him to halt, and when he did not heed to her warning, she shot him twice, wounding him in the arm. Police Chief Carl McClellan commended Miss Dale early this morning for her bravery in the face of danger. TWO LOCAL BOYS IN JAIL Pvts. Eric Ernst and Loren Epler were given 30 days each in the brigg and $90 each for be- ing A.W.O.L. Sergeant Vaunie Bonio, the M.P. in charge of them says they are very likely to have their sentence extended if their behavior doesn't change. LATEST SPORTS FLASHES RACING Flip-a-coin the famous race horse belonging to J. C. Nelson, came in first for the tenth consecutive time. Mr. Nelson has confirmed the re- port that his horse is racing in the Kentucky Derby. Troy, Michigan TROY DAILY TROY CLASS OF 51 TROY THEATRE SHOWS SNEAK PREVIEW Art Dear, the owner and manager of the Troy Theatre showed a sneak preview of The Days of '51. last night. From the reception of the au- dience, it was a definite hit. Beverly Barrel, the leading lady and Kenneth Ashbaugh, the leading man, are both graduates of Troy High School. In the audience were the for- mer Jo Ann Watts, and her husband; Donald Piotrowski, owner of the Goody Bakery; Gene Niemasz, gentleman farmer; and Pat Doherty head stenographer at Troy High School. THREE LOCAL GIRLS HOME ON LEAVE Gloria Budd, Irene Cook, and Annette Rothwell are all home on three week furloughs. Gloria Budd is a Lt. in the Waves, and Irene and Annette are both Sgts. in the WAC's. Gloria has been serving in Germany for the last five years. Annette and Irene served in France for two years each. 26 June 8, 1961. No. 1 NEW NIGHT SPOT OPENS The High Hat , a new night club, has been opened in Troy. The owner, Earl Roberts, says that with his first rate entertain- ers he is sure to run close com- petition to the Stork Club . Last night, Miss Nancy Arthur made her debut as piano Soloist and proved to be an up and coming young Star. Another young lady who is fast rising to stardom, is Miss Audrey Dittmer, the famous Hula Dancer. Starting July 4th, Mr. Don Quigley will present his magician act to the night club audience. His pro- fessional name is Dyanamo Quigley. STUNT COMPLETED Barry Blazo, that daring Hot Rod driver has completed another do or die stunt. He drove through one mile of fire with dynamite tied all over the ourside of the car. To make the stunt more dan- gerous, he had his assistant, Gordon Wolven, completely satu- rate him with gasoline.
