Since the first day that we left our homes to enter school we have passed through many doors. Every door has openedupon a new experience or a new adventure. But Troutville has impressed us with more than her doors. She has been our inspiration, and her foundations are the immaterial things which year after year she has bestowed upon us. Within her walls we have found an atmos- phere of spiritual and intellectual nourishment and lasting friend- ships. It has been said that our school gives in return only as much as the student himselfgives. Whether this be true or not, none of us can ever repay the wealth Troutville has given to us in our understanding of books, people and life itself. Our hope is that through this, our yearbook, your memories of Troutville will remain alwa ys with you. ll I I I I We, the annual staff of Trout- W 2 Illlll Kar if 5931618 A Zfdgfg FACULTY STUDENTS Page 13 CLASSES Page 39 SPGRTS ACTIVITIES Page49 ADVERTISEMENTS We who are extremely grateful, wish to ex- press our appreciation, and show our sincere admiration and respect to one who has helped to make our problems lighter. We , therefore , de dic at e this , the twenty-fifth volume ofthe Warrior to you, Mrs. Velva S. Sutphin. 4 0 The faculty could well be represented by an antique door. Just as an antique door has served and helped people for many years, so has our faculty worked faithfully and well to start us out on life. Their untireing efforts are a thing we should all remember in the years to come. i Q ,l,f L X E-3 A Q- C Q AL, A I . I ii' Ersfm i7Q5Q3n'Z'nni1 L. E IE! The truth in this state- ment is readily seen because the students are the ones who make the school what it is today. They are the ones who win the awards, ball- games, and diplomas. Actually we should remember that the students and school door go hand in hand to make a good school, ' SENIORS We started our high school years in 1952 when we entered the eighth grade as the class of '57. Mrs. MaddexandMrs. Bunn were our spon- sors and Edna Huffman was elected president. We didn't enter to many activities that year be- cause we were just getting used to the new way of going to school, the changing of classes, and having a different teacher every period. For our first May Day we chose Janice Potter and Sylvia Bowman to represent us. ln our freshman year, many boys and girls started entering different sports. We were a slightly smaller class, now numbering only 47, Mr. Moore and Mrs. Sutphin were our sponsors. We picked Yvonne Jennings, a newcomer, presi- dent ofthe class. Janice Potter and Yvonne Jen- nings represented us at the May Day festival, As our sophomore year rolled along we were more settled in high school and most of us be- longed to one or more clubs. Our total enroll- ment was 39. When we organized, we selected Barry Taylor president. One of our students, Janice Potter, was elected secretary-treasurer of the Student Government. Mr.Yates and Miss Ferguson were our sponsors. Six of our boys were on the football team. When we became juniors in 1955, our mem- bership had diminished. We were only 34 in number, but the spirit was still there. Cecil Dunbar was elected class president, and Barry Taylor, one of our students was elected vice- president of the Student Government, Mrs. Sif- ford was the sponsor that year. Our junior play, The GirlNext Door, after many interruptions, was a huge success. Nine of our students were tapped by the Beta Club. The highlight of our year was entertaining the seniors. After much planning and a lot of hard work, we arranged a picnic and day's outing at Lakeside. A good time was had by all. The year 1956 saw us enter school as sen- iors witha class of 2.5, We chose Dennis Howell as our president. David Osborne and Dennis Ho- well were chosen co-captains of the football team. Our sponsor is again Miss Ferguson, Jerry Henderson is editor of the yearbook and Barry Taylor is president of the Student Govern- ment. We,the class of '57, would like to give our thanks to all the teachers who have helped us through these last five years, and to say that without your kindness to us all it would never have been possible. The Club's objectives are: To encourageeffort, promote character, stimulate achievement, and to assist students to continue their education after high school. The purpose of this organization is the promotion 01 the ideals of honesty, service, and leadership among highschool students. Its sole function is to encourage the student to make himself a real asset to his school and community. This year, the Troutville High Beta Club collected food and clothing for needy families at Christmas in carrying out one of its main projects. The rest of the projects were ways to make money, such as a talent show, selling refreshments during exams and ball games, and producinga three-act play. This money was then used to send as many members as possible to the Beta Convention held in Richmond. This crowned a successful year for the Troutville Beta Club, 52 ,A . ,X iw' , 5 B R X s 5 J. 2 S. During the past year, the Troutville F.F,A, has taken an active part and placed high in the B-R-B Federation contests of which it is a member. These contests, such as the crop, dairy, forestry, andpoultry contests, help to culture more interest and better knowledge concerning the different fields of agriculture. Each F.F.A, boy carries out two or more farm projects that increase his familiarity with farm life.
