Mrs. Navoleine Roddy Mrs. Neva McMichael Dedication Because of the many evidences of their love for Troup School and its students . . . because they are forever interested in the progress and welfare of all young people . . . because of their unending work to make our school a better place, we proudly dedicate the '80 Tiger to these two ladies. - Although we know they would prefer to remain in the shadows and would repel any personal glory, they have walked many trails. They are both Christians and play an active role in their respective churches. Both are devoted wives and mothers and their children are a reflection of this love. Both have proven their dedication to their chosen profession, and their students reflect a special love for each of them. They also have many interests other than teach- ing, such as sewing, gardening, assisting in community projects, and being women of letters. Yes, theirs is a place of prominence among us, and we are indebted to their untiring energy, courage, and enthusi- asm. Therefore, we respectfully praise you and dedicate the pages of this yearbook to you, Mrs. Roddy and Mrs. McMichael. 18 Features IFE f M W 5 Q Y I 55 E 5 21 55 2 S LQ? 'I' ,i-Ml .S -S: H YM? Tigers had one of the most rewarding seasons ever during the fall of 1979 as they won the District 18a cham- pionships, went on to snatch the Bi-district win over Frank- ston, the hard-fought regional victory over Hawkins and racked up a quarter-final win over Lovelady. Their potent offense coupled with a staunch defense was unmatched until they met the Hull-Daisetta Bobcats in a Semi-final bout which ended in a 22-21 score against the Tigers. Even this one-point loss didn't keep the Tigers from being number one in Troup and in all East Texas as they displayed genuine sportsmanship and the Tiger spirit throughout the entire season. TIPUHP HHH VfHf3f3i Administration and Faculty 1979-80 School Board Seated: Messrs. Hollis Baldree, Secretaryg Roy Jimerson, President, and Homer Jones, Vice-President. Standing: Messrs. Harlan Thacker, Advisor: Travis Thompsong James Hamilton, Grover Davis, and Fuston Tackett. Responsible for the administration of the school is the Board of Education. They keep the system in accordance with the requirements of the community, Texas law, and the State Board of Education. Day after day problems arise which are both challenging and sometimes dis- turbingg yet these men find time from their busy work day schedules to evalu- ate and make decisions for the improvement of public education in Troup Schools. Even though, in many cases, theirs is a thankless task, it is also a rewarding and satisfying one, for it is an opportunity for service and the best investment in the future of America which any man can make. Jo Ann Northcutt, their Girl Friday also makes her contribution as she serves in the position of recording secretary for the Board. A simple thank youi' seems inadequate, but it expresses a sincere apprecia- tion to these who serve so tirelessly. A unique school year, 1979-1980, happened after we had finished three years of high school. Yet, as we look into our mirror, graduation time draws near. Our names will be called to receive our diplomas, and then we,ll leave the comfortable routine of school life and the friends who are so familiar. We,ll then go in different directions to fulfill different dreams, and we won- der how soon the memories of this, our senior year, will begin to fade. For it was a year with new dimensions: when youths became men, followers became leaders, and attitudes turned to ideals. It was also a year when tensions of aggravation and disappointment in failure andjubilance and confidence in success were present. But, as we seniors leave our sheltered lives and enter into a competitive society, this year will forever be mir- rored in our minds, hearts, and souls through the pages of this, our 1980 Tiger. nw, www, ,gov vim' x ,MA A sv 'dl- . 1 dverusers ,, 4 .. . James Russell Lowell The Troup School Board has adopted the above philosophy and is endeavor- ing to help each student develop his potential in every area of education. All materials, facilities and personnel selected and every policy adopted are done so with this in mind. We must never forget that the hopes and aspirations of our community depend upon the end product of our efforts in educating our youth. 174 Y 'W , 1 gi ?? 51 'X 4.- x If W Klassi Klo+hes Owners: I I3 Wesf Duval Alan and Margie TROUP, TEXAS 75789 Jordan 2I4!842-3580 TROUP LUMBER CCDMPANY Every1'hing +0 Build Any+hing Troup, Texas Phone 842-35I4 I76 LA Lv' ,QQX -'fb ' Nm ,st ' ,g4 J A Z1 5' f gig!
