ROTT started the year off with a bright new look. It was not only the new interior painting but also the enrollment of the chemistry and nursing girls. Trott, now for the first time in about five years, truly has become a co-ed school. The registration this year proved to be larger than last year's. There were a total of 440 students of which 36 were girls. The faculty of Trott also had a new look with the registration of five new teachers. They are Mrs. Mary Duke, Health, Food and Nutrition, and Practical Nursing: Mr. John Hadden. Music: Mr. John Kovach, Englishg Mr. Frederick Knapp, Mathematics and Blue Print Reading, and Mr. Samuel Hornbeck, Drafting. Mr. Hornbeck replaced Mr. Herbert Downs. The Student Council waded right into the problems of the school with great enthusiasm. Advisor for Student Council was Mr. Hudspith. President was Jerry Barksdaleg Secretary, Edgar Townsend, and Treasurer, Larry Langdon. Along with the help of the Trott Activity Club they were able to give a Valentine dance to raise money for the cheerleaders uniforms. They also had great success when they sold sweatshirts. In September Trott Topics came out again and this time was a better and bigger news- paper. The paper sparked by Louise Higgs, Sylvia Curtis and Judy Conte, had the help of William Trump, Jerry Barksdale, Diane Villone and Josephine Abdullah. Advisor for the pa- per was Mr. Toole. Also in September came the reorganization of the Camera Club under the supervision of Mr. Toole. Membersof this club have taken pictures of the basketball and football games, dances and pictures for the yearbook. Q3 iv ' g' Q N early October try-outs began for the cheerleading squads, under the supervision of Miss Kocic. Those who made Junior Varsity are Lorelei Ehrhard, captaing Mary Yelder, Shiela Hennegan, Carol Kramarz, Lois Kerbo and Nina Fratello. Those who made Varsity are Nancy Metzler, captain: Judy Simpson, Joyce Mong, Judy Conte, Joyce Perman and Carol McCardle. They certainly showed their ability to cheer at the games, and provided much of the moral support for the football and basketball teams. Also in October, Mr. Bernard Check organized a group called the Trott Activity Club or more commonly known-among the students as TAC. Officers nominated and elected were Robert Townsend, President, Joyce Mong, Vice Presidentg Sylvia Curtis, Treasurer, and Judy Simpson, Secretary. TAC started off with a bang. First came the warmly received Halloween dance, followed by the suc- cessful Thanksgiving dance given jointly with the senior class. This was followed by one of the big- gest dances Trott has ever seen, the Valentine dance Hearts and Flowers, co-sponsored by the Student Council. Not content with the dances only, TAC sponsored an unusual fete for Trott: the very successful skating party given on April ll. Our football season was not very successful this year. Although we only won one game our team really showed their integrity to play and more than tried to win. We had one successful game out of eight games. We turned back Tonawanda, 6-0 in a victory well earned. Mike DiPietro and Dave Booth made the all city football team. In November Trott's chorus and band made their debut under the direction of Mr. John Hadden, our new music teacher. They sang and played in a manner which made us proud of them. Mr. Hadden has done a great deal to make the 1955-56 band and chorus the success it is. The chorus consists of 18 boys and 21 girls. On December 13, The Trott Trotters ffacultyj and the Senior Clowns fsenior classl played a basketball game to raise money for the senior class. Although the faculty won, we cannot say that the tactics used were according to the rules. 16 if 1'- Ill ,W I ' Y - is Q' LJ X 5 1 'J ,, ss Taking it easy on the bench after an exhausting round of cheers are varsity cheerleaders Nancy Metzler, Joyce Ann Mong, Joyce Perman and Judith Simpson. La Salle defeated us Q W 19-0. The Trott defensive unit played an outstanding game led by Joe Masselli, Jim ll' I Q ' Monaghan, and Jerry Meitz. if W 'nn S . . 0 The second outing came to the same endg Jamestown 11, Trott 6. Willie Porter , , did some fine running and Dave Booth got the touchdown. Against North Tonawanda it was our defensive unit with Dave Booth supplying the offense. The final outsome, North 13, Trott O. Our third game was against Lackawanna. This game was a thriller. Frank Fabin put on a fine dis- play with Chirello scoring on a pass. The final score, Lackawanna 19, Trott 6. The Lockport game was all in favor of the county seaters. They were determined to win at least one game because we had defeated them for the past two years. Loekpm,-t's greater desire tg win brought them to a 6 - 0 victory. Kenmore Blue Devils had to pull out all the stops to defeat a gallant Trott eleven, 20 - 6. Fabin scored Trott's touchdown, with Booth and Meitz supplying the offensive fire works. Our outstanding game was against Tonawanda. Our defensive boys held our opponents to a minus 16 yards. Joe Masselli scored our points on a pass. Fabin, Mietz, and Townsend led the way overland. The season's finals was a real brawl. It was a case of breaks which went to Niagara Falls. Trott out- played our rivals in everything but points. Everyone in our club played an outstanding game. Little Davie Booth had the most yards per play. Big .Terry Mietz, and Frank Fabin supplied the offensive punch which rocked our opponents' defensive. We lost the first two games to Niagara Falls and Kenmore. Both teams out-hustled us in the last quarter to post victories. After the Christmas Holidays, Trott won five straight games, downing Lockport, North Tona- wanda, Tonawanda, La Salle and Lackawanna. After this string of victories we were tied for the League lead. Then the roof fell in. We lost three straight games to Niagara Falls, Tonawanda, and Kenmore and we were back where we started from. When the team beat Lockport and La Salle, things began to shape up better. In winning from La Salle, Trott established a school record by pouring 86 points through the hoop. The regular season ended with a 75-55 trouncing by Lackawanna. The team finished in fourth place and managed to cop the final seat in the play-offs. Lackawanna and Kenmore were favored to clash in the finals, but a stubborn, gallant, Trott team upset the apple cart by beating Lackawanna and Kenmore on successive nights. These wins enabled Trott to represent the Niagara Frontier League in the Double A Semi-Finals, which the team won quite handily beating a smaller Lancaster five, 58-35. The night of the finals in Memorial Auditorium saw a well oiled machine when Trott began to play. The team spurted in the second half to defeat Dunkirk 65-48. With these wins, Trott was crowned king of the Section V1 Double A and champions of the Niagara Frontier League Play-Offs. Coach Krumb can look forward to next year when he will have a highly rated J.V. team. The jun- ior varsity did very well, winning 13 games and losing Z5 one of which was in the play-offs. T the Christmas Assembly, Mr. Toole's fourth period English class, took part in a dra- matic reading of the Christmas Carol. The Students who participated in the play were James A. Ball as Scrooge, Barbara Reed, Carol McArd1e, Doris Burnham, Eugene Trunzo and Ken- neth Buck. Ben Parkhill, Howard Klino and Jack Taylor provided sound effects. The assembly was followed by parties for the rest of the day in the homerooms and shops. Mr. Hadden's chorus caroled through the halls. Trott's intramurals were again started in basketball, volleyball and bowling. Champions of the basketball intramurals were the Faculty while those of the volleyball were Millwright 12 and those of bowling were Mixmasters. The Senior Class under the direction of President Frank Fabin, Treasurer Barbara Reed, and Vice President Jerry Mietz, came out with quite a few good ideas this year for money raising projects. Among them was the selling of refreshments at the home basketball games. Mr. Fred Layo was senior class advisor. Trott's news, sports and talent was thoroughly publicized on the radio during the year. A new program, Pepsi Teen Time, was broadcast on WJJL, on which Trott was well represented. Judy Conte and Sylvia Curtis alternated on announcing the schools news, while Ralph Shagoian aired our sports. The talent of Trott, four regulars, were George Henderson, Doris Burnham and a duo, Judy Simpson and Nancy Metzler. In early March a new school paper, The Trott Trojan, came out. This paper was headed by Art Downie, editorg James Monaghan, sportsg Shiela Hennegan and Diane Villone, typists. Mr. Kovach was advisor. In February, Mr. Kovach presented a play 'Tain't Fit For Man or Beast. The play was presented during one of our assemblies. The cast consisted of Darlene Scheie as Mag A1 Daniels as Pap Nina Fratello as Little Nelly Nancy Metzler as Rich Widowg Charles Carlino as Baby Face: Art Downie as Guy Forsythe, and James Monaghan as Handsome Ha1. The play was enjoyed by all at the assembly. 27 ' 'ahve ev The highly successful Valen- tine dance was sponsored by Mr. Check's Activity Club, 4- In addition to the thousands of flowers which Mr. Check's students made by hand, a Wishing Well was manufac- tured and used as a center of attraction in the gym. HE yearbook finally got on its way with the help of Mr. Toole. Pictures were taken, cut down to size, glued, and write-ups typed. This could not have been done without the wonderful co-operation from staffers William Trump, Louise Higgs, Tony Genova, Syl- via Curtis, Judy Conte and Shiela Hennegan. In March a contest was held for the Junior and Sophomore homerooms. The first three homerooms to have a l00'Z: yearbooks would be given a party by the Chemistry 11 and Nursing girls. Those homerooms that won were Carpentry ll, Machine 10 and Millwright 10A. I'm sure they all enjoyed themselves at the party. We were very proud of both our Junior Varsity and Varsity basketball teams this year. Junior Varsity got off to a wonderful start, winning thirteen out of fourteen games. They were in first place throughout the season and reached the play-offs in no time. They received the city title which made Coach Walker and ourselves all the prouder of them. Varsity was a very surprising team this year. We lost our first three games, won the next five, lost four more and won three more. We ended up in fourth place in the league. In the play-offs we beat both Lackawanna and Kenmore taking the Niagara Fron tier League Championship. The team then went on to the sectionals winning the Double A class, and came home with the gold trophy. From our Varsity team Jerry Barksdale made the Gazette All-City Team. Gene Palazzo and James Monaghan made the second team. Lew Kazial and Bob Philbrick made honorable mention. To end this adventurous year, Carpentry 12 built a house in the school's back lot. We found that many of our Seniors were taking scholarship exams, and were going through pamphlets of colleges of their choice. Those who are not planning to go on to college, we hope, will certainly find no trouble in finding a job with Trott backing them up. 31 9 . 1-Q v , 'Pf' N d'5 ., 1 Aff john Andrews Machine 10 1 Josephine Abdullah Nursing 10 Q.
