Various courses in vocalional lrades were offered and Mr. Gregory became principal. During 'rhe lirsl year 'rhere were ver few pupils bul as lhe new school became beller known lhe classes grew rapidly and many sludenis came from +he Junior High Schools 'ro receive a commercial or vocalional lraining. ln I933 Troll enjoyed 'rhe grealesf enrollmenf so far. Now in I936 'rhe shops are crowded 'ro capacily. Every boy enlering one ol lhese courses realizes and appreciales lhe opporlunily offered him. Si+ua+ed in lhe lell wing of Trolnl are +he Millwrighl and Eleclrical Shops and in 'rhe righr wing of lhe building are lhe Machine, Aulo, Welding, and Sheer Melal Shops. Every leacher is chosen because of his parlicular abili+y 'fo leach one parlicular phase of 'rhe many frades. Compleiing ol a lwo-year course is necessary for gradua- lion, alier which s+uden+s are well qualilied fo procure and many ol The boys acquire posi+ions lhrough 'lhe help of lhe 'reachers in +he school. These boys go oul among lhe workers in various laclories and 'rhereby help 'lo spread 'rhe value of +his Vocalional School. And ours is The only public school in New Yorlc STaTe which can boasT of a Two-year vocaTional com- mercial course where emphasis is placed on general clerical posiTions as well as Type- wriTing, calculaTing machine operaTion, Tiling, bookkeeping and salesmanship. ln The beginning, Mr. Lang was The only Teacher and The regisTraTion numbered 30 sTudenTs. BUT during The TirsT Term This increased so rapidly ThaT Two addiTional Teachers were employed, Miss SmiTh and Miss Traver. AT The presenT Time, close To 200 sTudenTs are enrolled and Three oTher Teachers, Miss Kamm, Miss l-laroney. and Mr. Jaclc, have been added To This deparTmenT. Since The operaTing of The calculaTing machine develops boTh speed and accuracy in This course. all sTudenTs who compleTe iT are in a very Tavorable posiTion Tor employmenT.
