SA Y , i . . - I A , . gd' N ,ff Captain Frank Gallic graduated from West Virginia University in'l97l with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He was commissioned an Ensign through the Aviation Officer Candidate program and designated a Naval Aviator in December 1973. His first assignment was helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron ELEVEN IHS-1 D. Deployments with HS-ll included two Mediterranean and a North Atlantic cruise aboard the aircraft carrier USS JOHN F. KENNEDY ICV-671. He served as Communications OfficerlCMS Custodian, Assistant Operations, Line Division, Maintenance Material Control and Quality Assurance Officer. y In February 1977 he was selected for Navy Test Pilot School. During his subsequent tour with Rotary Wing Aircraft Test Pilot School, he participated in- the first five test and evaluation programs on the LAMPS MK HI. These encompassed performance and flying qualities evaluations to dynamic wind envelope testing conducted aboard USS MCINERY CFFG-81. Captain Gallic was also'the initial Project Officer on the SH- 60B flight simulator. J A He was assigned to Personnel Exchange Program with the Royal Navy in July 1981. Flying the MKIH and MK V Sea King helicopter, he served with 706 and 826 squadrons homeported at Culdrose, England and 819 squadron in Prestwick, Scotland, United Kingdom. He served as flight Instructor, Scheduling Officer and Officer-in-Charge deployed RF A's Fort Grange, Engadine and HMS HERMES. Returning to the United States in October 1983, Captain Gallic was assigned to Helicopter Anti- Submarine Squadron Light FOUR ONE CHSL-411. He served as an instructor pilot and Maintenance Officer. In March 1985, he reported for temporary additional duty to COMASWWINGPAC staff as the first SH-60BlF Maintenance Class Desk Officer. Captain Gallic reported to HSL-44 Pre-Establishment Unit in June 1986. Commissioned HSL-44 in August 1986, Captain Gallic served as Officer-in-Charge of the squadron's first detachment embarked in USS HAWES QFFG-531. While assigned to Middle East Force, his detachment provided continuous surface surveillance eight escort missions of re-flagged Kuwaiti tankers and simultaneously directed joint-service helicopter operations from the flight deck of USS HAWES. Captain Gallic reported to HSL-43 as Executive Officer in February 1989 and assumed squadron command in February 1990. Following his initial command tour he, joined USS NEW ORLEANS QLPH-111, deployed in the Persian Gulf in support of OPERATION DESERT SI-HELDISTORM and assumed the duties of Air Boss. Captain Gallic assumed command of USS TRIPOLI on 20 May 1993. His decorations include two Meritorious Service Medals, two Navy Commendation Medals, Battle Efficiency E , two Meritorious Unit Commendations, two National Defence Service Medals, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Medal, Sea Service and Overseas Service awards.
