Class Ili tor One fateful day in August, 1950, thirtv-six frightened freshmen braved the halls of T.H.S. After barely getting accustomed to the new routine, we had to face the mighty Seniors at initiation. Vou can imaq- ine our embarrassment at having,to wear our father's shirt and trousers held up with twine strinq, which the Seniors were so eager to cut. To make things even more uncomfortable, we had to wear overshoes and an onion around our neck. That night we returned to the torture chambers, and much to our surprise, got through without a mishap. During our Sophomore year we were swamped with studies and didn't have much time for outside activities, but we had a lot of fun, especiallv at our class picnic at West Union, with Mr. Swanson--a repeat performance of our Freshmen picnic. We were kept busv in our Junior year with our refresh- ment stand at games to help finance the Jr.-Sr. Prom. Pre- paring for the class play nUown to Earthn toox un suite Q hit of time, noon hours and all. At Homecouina, we took the honors for No. l float. Our theme - We Can't Wait To Tell Them We Won. The highlights of our Junior vear was our Prom - uUnder The Sea,n which was a success, with Miss Voshinara ever readv to help. To close the rear the class traveled to Uevil's Hack- bone at Strawberry Point for our picnic. We never did find out how many Mr. Breeding caucht ffish, that isll At last the long awaited dev rolfed around when we became mighty Seniors. This, being our Senior rear included initiation and many busy nichts workinc on the annual. We were honored to have Janie Dixon reicn over Homecoming festivities. We had great fun the day we traveled to Waterloo to have our graduation pictures taken. Tinsllv the his dav of commence- ment arrived, and we took our place with the other classes who have graduated from T.H.S. The memories of these four vears will lonq remain in the minds and hearts of the Glass of '5h. ,AS N x,..,x, , f1 fe qi ,I .,Xk x N .oil Vijifii N- . 45 - X , i ,. r w fi Q , ruf- as iw ' Q' - ,I 05 .9 l r pn I WIA This Paqe is sponsored bv: ULWWK and KLUVD I. The famous all around musician - Carl Beisner - will be here in person this week singing and playing his way into your very hearts. He will be accompanied by his partner, Jolene Tegtmeier, who has been his inspiration since high school days. Carl was a graduate of the 'Sh class of Tripoli, where he began his career. After Jim Beisner finishes college at Iowa State Teachers' College, he will buy a 1959 Cadillac and then coach football at Notre Dame until his eyes go bad. Mardell Bock, famous girl basketball player has signed a three year contract with the Philips 66 Oiler's. She is the fourth Iowan to join them. Other Iowans on the team are Norma Schulte and the Billerbeck twins. The professional skating star, Paul Bremer, will be the featured skater in the Roller Derby held in Chicago this week. After making his appearance, he will return to Tripoli, Iowa, his home town, to open the Bremer Roller Rink. Madison Square Gardens!! The biggest fight of the century! Moose Buls -5- Vern Cagnell When interviewed, Buls commented, I'1l get him the first few minutes and coast the rest of the way Cagne's statement was that he was a little worried at the strength of Buls but he would do his best to defeat the muscle bound Moose. Janie Dixon a 'Sh graduate of T.H.S., has recently returned as a ministers wife from Tennessee. Here she was the belle of the Tennessee college, being Homecoming queen all four years. Bobbie Dreyer in the past lO years, has gone to college at Iowa U. and now owns a chain of 33 Drug stores. She plans on retiring next year and will live in her home in Hollywood. Broadway has a newcomer who is making a big success. Who is it?? None other than Lowell Engle, a l9Sh graduate of T.H.S. After making his famous tour around the world, singing for the social elites, we will now find Lowell working for M.G.M. and earning extremely high wages of 310.00 a week. He is living in an expensive, beautiful, and large mansion with latest reports that he loves his work and will keep the job. Pat Goebel, a l9Sh graduate of Tripoli High School, made a smash hit this month at the Metropolitan Opera, singing, 'How much is that Doggie in the W1ndow.n Elaine Hartman, formerly of Tripoli, is now one of the cheerleaders at T.C. Her husband is the coach of this team. Today, we look in on the Iowa-Wisconsin football game. Leading the Iowa cheers we see a former Tripoli cheerleader, Verlaine Hartman. Favorite future plans seem to be Paris for our most famous and popular chemist, Miss Betty Hay, who just created an amazing new drug called Cancer Cure, which has now taken the world faster then Marilyn Monroe's calendar picture. The nballroomn was completely enclosed in white and aqua stream- ers, giving the illusion of being in the depths of a balmy, tropical ocean. With the help of colorful fish, bits of nets, seashells, seaweed, and a mermaid, the theme of 'Under the Sean was car- ried through. The delicious meal, served by Sophomore 'Mermaidsn and nTropical Diversn and prepared by the Juniors' mothers, was enjoyed by all. The menu consisted of: Ocean H20 Silver and Gold Sea Shells 1 Treasure Island Roast of Shark Black Magic White Caps Wlth Breakers Sea Foam Treasure Chest Mermaids Delight Coral Reef The climax was reached when the Juniors sang nFarewe1l to Youn, their farewell song to the Seniors. The song, to the tune of nAloha Oen was very appropriate with the Tropi- cal surrondings. The remainder of the entertainment was furnished by the Sophomores and Juniors. Immediately following the Banquet, all guests danced or listened to the Music of Don West's Band. ' I' 1 This page is sponsored by: Tripoli Implement ,Tr . QW A iff 7',11i,ig- V I Y -gg . ..
