Of the above people all save Virginia Nord, Sandra Nord, Leon Gustafson, John Hoffman, Dawn Marheine, and Judy Loehmer participated in the local contest which was held March 2. Those, in addi- tion to the students pictured, who spoke were Terry Wasti, Clyde Richert, Peter Sestak, Edward Beau- mont, and Jean Niemi. Those chosen to compete in the league contest held at Hawkins on March 10, were as follows: Helen Woehrle and Barbara Lind in Memorized Declamation, Jackie Niskanen and Ervin Brietzke in Non- original Oration, James Laine in Original Oration, Paige Fisher in Four-Minute Speech, John Metsala and David Kivela in Public Address, Wallace Raleigh and Edward Beaumont in Extemporaneous Speak- ing, Lenore Niskanen and Lauris Benefiel in Prose Reading, Linda Maki and Tedi Palmquist in Poetry Reading, and Sandra Pokela, Jean Hoffman, Gail Wanie, Clyde Richert, and Terry Wasti in Play- Reading. Helen, Jackie, Ervin, James, Paige, Wallace, Lenore, Lauris, and Tedi received A's at Hawkins so they entered the district contest at Hurley, April 4. Of these nine, five received A's so all records for forensic work in our school were broken this year. The five who are eligible to speak in the state contest at Madison on April 25, are Helen, Jackie, Ervin, James and Tedi. 30
