BASEB LL TEAM 7 CHAMPIONS Row 1: Peter Heikkinen, Terry Wasti, Steve Hinsa, Patrick Marcogliblc Qcoachh, Eddie Beaumont, Ervin Brietzke, Don Wanie. Row 2: Wallace Raleigh, Gary Calhoun, Larry Knight, Darryl Pokela, David Palmquist, Milton Gustafson. Row 31 Robert Koch, Gary Heikkinen, Darroll Danek, William Heikkinen, Jere Marheine, Deana Johnson. On September 20, 1961, Tripoli opened the baseball season by soundly defeating Prentice 8-2, behind Darryl Poke1a's 2 hit pitching. Tripo1i's 9 hit attack was led by Dave Pa1mquist's 3 hits. One week later Tripoli met Glidden at our own field. Bo- hind Darryl Poke1a's 18 strikeouts Tripoli breezed on to a 7-1 victory. Pokela also led the offense with 3 hits. Tripoli met Winter on the latter's homefield on October M, and was victorious by a score of 6-M. The damaging 11 hit attack was led by 'Seymourn Calhoun's 2 doubles and a single. On October 18th, with the league championship guys if vic- torious, we met Hawkins at home for the last game of the season. The Tripoli batters responded with a murderous onslaught of 17 runs. This combined with Darryl Poke1a's 15 strikeouts and h hit pitching resulted in a 17-2 romp over Hawkins. The lh hit barrage was led by nSeymour's' h for 5 with two long drives out to the woods Conly a lack of speed prevented homersl. Tripoli is the Flambeau League Champion for '61 in baseball. We take our hats off to the superb pitching by Darryl Pokela and a .383 team batting average. Our sincere thanks to coaches Kohn and the new Marcogliese.
