Roger Allen Jokela was born November 30, 1936, son of Eine A. and Florence Jokela. He attended the public school in Tripoli, graduating from the Tri-County High School with the Class of l95b. On June 12, 195k he enlisted in the U. S. Navy, and passed the necessary tests to become a member of the Naval Air Force. He advanced to the rating of Electronic Technician--3rd Class. Roger was aboard the ill-fated Liftmaster C-118 when it sank in the Atlantic, October ll, 1956. i Sir Walter Scott once wrote, 'One Hour of Life, crowded to the full with glorious action, and filled with noble risks is worth years of those mean observances of paltry decorum, in which men steal through existence, like sluggish waters through a marsh without either honour or observation.' Roger loved his work in the Naval Air Force. His last let- ter home bore a postscript in which he said he had been suddenly called out to go somewhere. He ended by saying, 'I'll tell you where I went, when I getback.n There was no complaint because his eveningfs plans were changed--he was only thrilled because he WHS being given BD0ther opportunity for adventure. It was of men like Roger that Scott wrote, for in his short twenty years, Roger lived his 'One Hour of Life.' Before we got settled we were stuck with having to go through initiation. During the year Duane and Neil Belke joined our group, but ElmerOhlhoun, Sidney Maki, Ronald Keto, Anthony Powers, and Sandra Miller left us. Near the end of the year we had a return party for the sopho- mores. In our sophomore year we added Jeannine Schumann to our ranks. Ourtwo socialz fairs were the Initiation and the Return Party given in our honor by the freshmen. During our junior year, June Saari and Jeannine Schumann left us, but Jackie Schumann joined us. Stuart DuChaine joined us for a while but decided Arizona was a better place. Our first try atacting was the annual junior play, 'Off the Track.' Our Junior Prom theme was nRose Marie' with the royalty being Robert Arndt and Judith Larson. Our senior year started with the same students who had finished the third year. Thefirst of many happy events was the trip to Wausau for our pictures. Next came our Senior Dance which was a huge success. As Christmas time rolled around we were happy to receive Philip Hakala into our class. He was a former student of Tripoli High who had spent two years in the army. Then came the class play entitled, 'Hobgoblin Housen. Our class of twenty-one looks forward to a nice class trip through the metropolises of Milwaukee and Green Bay. Then the final two appearances of the seniors will be made at Baccalaureate Services and Graduation. Monday morning, on the 22nd day of April we started on our trip to Milwaukee. We took our lunch along so we only had to stop once and that was for gasoline at Stevens Point. We arrived at Milwaukee at 1:00 P. M. and went straight to the County Stadium where we saw the Braves play. Rain interrupted the game a couple of times but they finished it, and we didn't mindt00 much for the Braves beat the Cubs, 9 to A. After the game the girls went to the YWCA and the boys went to the Medford Hotel. The first night most of us went to a show and explored the city awhile. During the next two days, some of us again went to the Braves game, while the rest were still seeing the town. We were situated in the middle of the town, so we had access to many places. We could get bus service anywhere if we knew where to go. The places of interest we visited were: Milwaukee Museum, Mitchell Airfield, Washington Park Zoo, Pabst Brewery, and the Harley-Davidson Company. The girls went to the Wisconsin Roof where dancing is held. Thursday morning we started for Green Bay. We stopped at the Badger Consolidated in DaPere where we saw how milkvas pasteurized and bottled and how ice cream is made. We also got a generous free sample. After leaving there we went to the Beaumont Hotel in Green Bay. The University of Wisconsin's Haresfoot Club was showing at the Bay Theater that night so some of us went to see it. It had an all male cast and was named nCal1 Me Madam.' The final day of our trip we went to WBAY television station where we watched a live show being televised. After the show, we ate and then started home. The return trip was made by the way of Shawano, Kesheena, and Neopit so we saw some of the finest forests in,Wisconsin. We wish to thank all the people that made this trip possible, especially Mr. Knight, the bus driver, and our chaperones, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Pokela.
