Atlantic in center. On the cold, crisp morning of January 5, 1952, the USS TR1POLI was re-commissioned after a period of six years in mothballs. A WW II Es- cort Carrier, she had been taken from mothballs to go into service as part of the Atlantic Fleeb' of the Military Sea Transporation Service. The Ship was turned over to the new Skipper, CAPT R. N. Sharp, by CAPT Francis J. Grandfield, Chief of Staff, MSTS Atlantic. Vice Admiral 'William M. Callaghan, Director of the Military Sea Trans- portation Service at that time, addressed the guests at the re-commissioning ceremonies and told of the importance of the TRIPOLI's big job ahead.
