The singer, Conrad Birdie, fBruce Surrattb, the Elvis Presley type, is contin- ually being sheparded by Albert Peterson fRon Frickej, his mana- ger, and Rosie CPam Bridges5, Albert's faithful secretary. And it is Rosie who invents the money-making scheme for na- tional publicity before Conrad leaves for the Army. He will bid a typical American teenage girl goodbye with an all-American kiss. Kim Macafee, Qanet Crawfordj in Sweet Apple, Ohio, wins the ho- nor. But when Rosie tries to call Sweet Apple, all the phones are tied-up by Kim's friends who sing about her recent pinning to Hugo Peabody CCerry Beardj. When Conrad arrives in Sweet Apple, the town is upset with the presence of a celebrity. But the tables are turned when Hugo Peabody decides that Conrad Birdie isn't going to kiss his girl goodbye. b .. i t
