Their countless contributions to the development and success of the school could never be enumerated in this short message. Mrs. Dunbar has spent many years working to build an outstanding school library while Mr. Dunbar has become a living legend in his many capacities as teacher, coach, and assistant headmaster coupled with a multitude of other duties which have earned him the title Mr. Trinity-Pawling . Upon their retirement, we the class of 1978 wish them many years of continued happiness, and in recognition for all they have done, we respectfully dedicate this yearbook. 16 John Lloyd Owen. DIR. Among the weak. And I ask them for the shortcut to the answers that I seek. But it seems nobody understands what is and what will be. Oh, the questions of my childhood weave a web of mystery. And the sun looked over the mountain's rim: And straight was a path of gold for him. And the need of a world of men for me. Robert Browning Think as I Think 'Think as I think,” said a man, Or you are abominably wicked; You are a toad. And after I had thought of it, I said. I will, then, be a toad. Up-Hill Does the road wind up-hill all the way? Yes. to the very end. Will the days journey take the whole long day? From morn to night, my friend . . Shall I find comfort, travel sore and weak? Of labour you shall find the sum. Will there be beds for me and all who seek? Yea, beds for all who come. Christiana G. Rossett The Wayfarer The wayfarer. Perceiving the pathway to truth. Was struck with astonishment. It was thickly grown with weeds. Ha, he said. I see that none has passed here In a long time. Later he saw that each weed Was a singular knife. Retrospective Thoughts As a butterfly leaves its cocoon. So I too must leave mine. You have nourished and cared for me. In my deepest need vjone are the dark clouds which had me blind. My path is clear. When I faltered, and lagged through a wooded section, A knowing, and gentle hand quickened my pace. You were aware of my humanness. As we cross the river, I will tell Virgil of this time and place. Mark Gardy Mark Gardy 518 Dorchester Drive Rivervale, New Jersey 07675 The Road Not Taken Two roads diverged in a yellow wood. And sorry I could not travel both, And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair. And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same. And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another dayl Yet knowing how way leads on to way. I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I — I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference Robert Frost 53 Teri Wheeler Hoyt Road Wingdale, N Y. 12594 Mike Toomey 500 East Center Street Manchester Ct. 06040 55 Time passes On Time passes on like a river that must always run. I want love for those I love to come from all sides not just selfish me Rod McKuen 60 The real reason we caved was that we were after one of the old, dependable highs in life: the risk high. It is produced by willfully choosing to do something that there is absolutely no need to do — rope up a cliff, jump out of a plane, drive 180 m.p.h. or, in our case, crawl under the roots of mountains. You keep at it until reason and instinct scream stop. The next step, the one beyond reason and instinct, is where the high begins . . . We are all, in some respects, caves. Our interiors are dark confused, ancient mazes, difficult and sometimes dangerous to penetrate, but often containing unexpected, spectacular scenery. In either kind of labyrinth, those who obediently stop where reason and instinct command them to never make it to the best and highest places. This conference consisted of Hotchkiss, Kent, Taft, Kingswood, Hopkins, and Trinity-Pawling. The season began with a very heart-breaking loss to Hotchkiss with a score of 8-6. In the next league game, T-P captured a moral victory with a come from behind 6-6 tie against a large and powerful Kent squad. The following week, T-P had a game against the Taft School, who traveled from Watertown, to face the students and parents of a fearless T-P school. In this particular game, T-P did not score in the first half, but did score two touchdowns in the second half which completely demoralized the Taft crew, with a score of 16-0. The next game, T-P was on the road to New Haven to play Hopkins Grammer. Again T-P started off sluggishly, but soon regained their poise with the help of a long scramble of 72 yards, run by Asa Hilliard, to complete the score to 30-0. Again T-P found themselves on the road traveling to Chershire Academy. The Blazers scored quickly on a pass to Greg Fox on the first play from scrimmage, which made the score 8-0. Cheshire score and the score remained tied until the last play of the first half, when Tim Nelligan threw a bomb to David Bedbug Beddinger to bring the Blazers to the final score of 14-6. The Avon game was our best performance of the year. T-P illustrated the determination that can be used to defeat a huge, powerful, and experienced Avon team. It was a total team effort to come out with a win of 16-12. After this big win against Avon, the Blazers showed a slower way of winning, which turned out to be a 32-7 win against Kingswood. After the Kingswood win, the Blazers faced a non-league game against a very powerful Canterbury team. Unfortunately, the Blazers came home with a 36-26 loss. At the fall banquet. Bill Leek was presented the Most Improved Player award, while Brian Sewing was presented with the Most Valuable Lineman award. Asa Hilliard was presented the Coaches Most Valuable Player trophy and Paul Gambal was awarded the Un-Sung Hero award, while Mike Moore received the Fathers Association award. Next years captains are Tim Clarke and Bob Mullaney. With only four starters returning from second place finishing 1976 team and all of their forwards, this years team led by Captain Bruce Otto and finished in sixth place ahead of all their rival teams. Led by three yearer was Peter Buchanan who scored a record 23 goals and 7 assists, Otto with 9 goals, and Jim Chapman, Kirk McCaskill and a newcomer Rene Rodriguez who combined for ten more goals. Trinity-Pawling soccer continued to be an offensive powerhouse. They scored 46 goals during the season, second highest total in the 33 team league. Rounding out the offense was returnee Bruce Blake, newcomer Bruce Remy, and Eric Sonnabend, but for the team to be successful, it had to develop a strong defense as well. Using a new formation, Otto, Rivera, Jameison and Eric Shafonsky and strengthened by the solid performance of goalie Steve Puleston, the team was able to keep their opponents from tickling the twines. The halfbacks in this formation did yeomans work at midfield, led by serious Bob MacLellan, Burton Chenet, and junior Chapman. Highlights of the season would include the 5-0 drubbing of Chote which was T-P's first win against that opponent, the 4-3 cliff-hanger against Westminster, and the 2-1 victory in the closing minutes of the Taft game. Award winner for the best underclassman player went to Jim Chapman; most improved player awards went to Bob McLeellan and Eric Shafonsky, and high scoring award to Peter Buchanan for the season total and career total at T-P of an amazing 48 goalsl Bruce Otto, strong field player and leader, received the annual Soccer Award. With eight returnees next year led by captain-elect Steve Puleston, the fine soccer season at Trinity-Pawling should continue. 127 Girls Varsity Soccer FIRST ROW: Tytlar, Barrington.
