As school nurse she has spent many long and arduous hours attending to the needs of both students and faculty alike. It is sure-footed and confident in the knowledge that you can meet life head on and handle whatever comes along. Jacob had it. Esau didn't. Symbolically, we can look at Jacob s wrestling match with the angel. Those who have class have wrestled with their own personal angel and won a victory that marks them thereafter. Class never makes excuses. It takes its lumps and learns from past mistakes. Class is considerate of others. It knows that good manners is nothing more than a series of pretty sacrifices. Class bespeaks an aristocracy that has nothing to do with ancestors or money. That most affluent blue-blood can be totally without class while the descendant of a Welsh miner may ooze class from every pore. Class never tries to build itself up by tearing others down. Class is ALREADY up and need not strive to look better by making others look worse. Class can walk with kings and keep its virtue and talk with crowds and keep the common touch. Everyone is comfortable with the person who has class — because he is comfortable with himself. If you have class you don't need much of anything else. Besides Trinity-Pawling, the conference was comprised of teams from Avon, Hopkins, Hotchkiss, Kent, Kingswood, Loomis, and Taft. Trinity-Pawling finished with a 2-3-1 record in the conference and 3-4-1 overall. The season had its share of excitement as well as frustrations. We had a difficult schedule at the outset and dropped our first three games to Hotchkiss, Kent, and Taft. The players didn't lose heart and proceeded to win the next three games over Hopkins, Cheshire, and Avon. In the latter two games, we rallied from deficits to win. The Avon game was our best performance of the year. After being down 20-6 in the first period, we came out on top by a 36-28 score. All of T.P.'s touchdowns were scored on long runs or pass plays. After three consecutive victories, we traveled to Kingswood and rallied in the second half, but our last drive fell short, and we settled for a 6-6 tie. The final weekend of the season pitted us against a good Canterbury Team. T.P. led 8-6 at half time but mistakes and good play by our rival in the second half left us on the short end of a 20-8 score. The squad was led by a strong backfield (comprised of Rick Mackey, Mike Moore, and Curt O'Donnell) who accounted for more than 1500 yards rushing on the year. Larry Jackson and Tim Nelligan handled the quarterback chores. The line was led by Co-Capt. Peter Ogden, Dan Sperduti, Paul Gambal, Bob Collins. P.B. Snyder. Frank Rienzi, John Petraglia, Bob Clarke, and Mike Rivers. Thanks should also go to the seniors Jerry Scutt, Vic Brinkman, Peter Jordan, Tony Santilli, and Ron Peden for their work during the course of the season. At the Fall Banquet, Paul Gambal was presented the Most Improved Player Award while Dan Sperduti was presented the Coaches Trophy for best lineman. Rick Mackey was the recipient of the Fathers Association Award for the most valuable player. Led by Senior Captain Kip Chapman and the Benobi Wow” cheer the team finished with an 11-2 record. The team also posted 5 shutouts that go to the credit of outstanding goalie Jon Kenyon. Because of the outstanding offensive play of Seniors Steve Murphy, Dave Kennedy, Dave Otto, Pete Redman, John Sikes, Kim Campbell, Dave Murphy, and the underclassmen, the team scored 47 goals which was tops in the league. The defence, which consisted of fullbacks Steve Stowe, Kip Chapman, and George Ross and goalies Jon Kenyon and Drew Sanita allowed only 15 goals against. At the end of the season, Dave Otto was chosen to be on the WNEPSSA select team. The team looks forward to the skill of underclassmen Peter Buchanan, Jim Chapman, Bob Rivera. Bruce Blake, and next years captain Bruce Otto to be the backbone next year. On behalf of the 1976 soccer team we would like to thank and wish coach Smyth the best of luck in whatever he does. The season was highlighted by the Tri-State League championship, a victory in the Trinity-Pawling Tournament, the consolation championship in the prestigious Hill Tournament, and a New England Tournament bid. The starting five consisted of Co-Captains Tom Nelligan and Andre Lambertson, Tim Nelligan, Mick Herzing, and Kevin Rahill. With strong bench support coming from Larry Jackson, Jeff Gowen, Brud Coombs, Bill Leek, Cricket Kirchmaier, Kent Wiliams, and Bob Rivera. The highlight of the year was winning the championship in the Lawrenceville Tournament. Leo Lynett, Dave Kennedy, Jim Belforti, Tony Santilli, and Bob Vanecek all did an outstanding job in this victory. Also contributing to this championship were Bob Brawn, Jon Kenyon, and Steve Stowe. Other high points during the season were the team's victories over Hotchkiss, the first in five years, and the victory over Westminster, the first in ten years. Captain Steve Murphy was the hero in the Westminster game with a hat trick. Jim Belforti, Dave Kennedy, and Peter Jordan were strong on defense with the other defensemen out with illnesses. Hard hitting Pitt Petraglia was also outstanding in this game.
