TRINITY PAWLING SCHOOL PAWLING, NEW YORK I Dedication Father James Heron came to Trinity-Pawling eight years ago. Since that time he has made significant contributions to the school community. As school chaplain he has been a constant source of faith and inspiration as well as one who has the ability to teach the profound concepts of religion and philosophy in an understandable way. With his friendly disposition and quick wit, he manages to put everyone at ease and displays a genuine interest in assisting all students in whatever way possible. This has been especially true in his role as dorm master and advisor to the Freshmen. Father Heron has been particularly devoted to working closely with each senior in the important task of college selection. The success which seniors of recent years have enjoyed is reflective of the hard work which he has shown in his role as Director of College Placement. In grateful recognition of all these untiring efforts in behalf of Trinity-Pawling and its students, we the class of 1976 respectfully dedicate this yearbook to the Rev. James E. Heron. 4 6 ■nil 10 12 13 14 15 16 19 22 23 24 25 26 27 Phillips Smith. HEADMASTER Administration Fr Richard Wyland. DEAN OF STUDENTS John Lloyd Owen. DIR OF STUDIES 31 Fr James Heron. And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair. And having perhaps the better claim. Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same. And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh! I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverging in a wood, and I — I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference. —Robert Frost 123 Dean Sterner Jon Tenuta Senior Directory JAMES W. ANDERSON JR. 435 Abbott Ave. Ridgefield. N.J. 07657 ................. page 92 ROBERT B. After an opening game win over Hopkins Grammar, the team lost three games in a row including strong Kent and Hotchkiss squads as well as a disappointing loss to Kingswood. The turning point was the Cheshire game T-P played its best football of the season against a good team The Blazers rallied from behind three times during the game and came up with key offensive and defensive plays throughout the afternoon. The next week we faced Avon and raced to a 12-0 lead in the first half Avon rallied in the second half, and T-P found itself behind 13-12 with six minutes remaining in the game and the ball on our own 19 yard line. We then put together an 8 1 yard drive and scored with 40 seconds remaining. The season ended with a big win over traditional rival, Canterbury. After a mistake plagued first period we were able to put together two scoring drives as well as come up with the big play Throughout the course of the season, the line was anchored by Brooks Clark, Jim Ferriter, Steve Berkeley, Pete Ogden, Bob Ciambra. John Petraglia, Rob Handville. Mark Woodhouse. Bill Dale, Paul Stapleton, and Dean Coleman. The backs were led by Larry Cherry, Bill Marshall, Mike Moore, Jay Howlett, Steve Tutuny, and Stacey Lewis At the end of the season, the Fathers Association Award for most valuable player was presented to Brooks Clark. The girls launched the first team sport at T-P with soccer this fall. Although the entire team had never played soccer before, they began to develop skills as the season progressed. Playing a rather tough schedule, they were easily outclassed in all but one contest. However, their enthusiasm and drive indicated that the level of play will improve in the years ahead. After two losses on the road to both Canterbury and Kent, the girls played their home opener against Millbrook in front of a packed bank of spectators. In spite of its self-consciousness, the team played much better but failed to score and dropped another one. In the next game against Canterbury, the team reached its second highlight of the season, the second goal of the year In the first Canterbury contest Canan Kaplan had tickled the twines from the left wing, and in the repeat match, Claire Brown caressed the crease with a shot from the center. Though still dropping the last three games by 7-0, 9-0, and 1-0, the team began to show great improvement. In the last game the fullbacks who had played well during the season led by Mary Cooke, Emily Fowler, and Captain Nancy Farrell continued to play very well defensively, and they were now backed up by Patrice Lynch. The forwards, Mary Hamann, Lindsey Bundy, Robin Clear, and Canan Kaplan hit the post several times with shots from the strong halfback line of Mary Anne Greene, Brenda Brill, and Claire Brown. The game, however, was shortened twenty minutes due to a Millbrook injury, and finally darkness ended the contest. The girls were headed for their first win, but it was denied them. The most valuable player award for the season went to Claire Brown. season record: 0-7 Trinity-Pawling 1 Trinity-Pawling 0 Trinity-Pawling 0 Trinity-Pawling 1 Trinity-Pawling 0 Trinity-Pawling 0 Trinity-Pawling 0 Canterbury 6 Kent 9 Millbrook 6 Canterbury 6 Kent 7 Berkshire 9 Millbrook 1 145 Varsity Soccer FRONT ROW Stent, Kirby. The season began with four victories (over Hopkins. Milford, Berkshire, and Wooster) before a disappointing tie with Taft on their muddy field. However, the resounding 7-4 victory over Kings-wood on Parents Day was probably the highlight of the season. Another tie (with Hotchkiss) began the slate's second half, followed by victories (over Storm King, Gunnery, and South Kent) and defe-ates (Kent and Canterbury). The team represented a fine combination of old and new players. Blaise Farina represented the school on the WNEPSSA Select team. Returning seniors Mark Antort, Calvin DeMarsilis, Dave Gilmour. Craig Hansen, and the captains were the core of the team's success. They were surrounded by former JV players and new boys including three sophomores who showed fine potential. 146 147 Junior Varsity Soccer FRONT ROW Cooper. Freeman. McGraw. Blake. Marbaix. Kreusch. However, in the case of the 1975 Cross-Country team, this is not true. The team was composed almost entirely of young inexperienced runners who had not participated in Cross-Country before Only one letter man, Rob Kumnick, returned from last year's team During the course of the season, all members worked very hard to improve beginning with the Canterbury Invitational to the Tri-Meet with Kent and Canterbury.
