Karpoe has been a good friend to the class of 1975. One half of us spent our first year at Trinity-Pawling in his dormitory. In our four years here, many of us have been close to him not only in the classroom, but also in his home which is always open to students. As head coach of the Varsity Football Team for twenty-six seasons, Mr. Karpoe gained his 100th victory this year. It is with pleasure that we dedicate the 1975 Trinitannus to John P. In an instant every trace Of little crawling things — Ants, philosophers, and lice. Cattle, cockroaches, and kings. Beggars, millionaires, and mice Men and maggots, — all as one As it falls into the sun, — Who can say at the same Instant from some planet far A child may watch us and exclaim See the pretty shooting star! — Oliver Herford And a shadow breathed in the chill ocean air Christopher Flach 44 Can I tell you something. Got to tell you one thing. If you expect the freedom That you say is yours. Prove that you deserve it. Help us to preserve it. Or being free will just be. Words and nothing more — KANSAS Art is long and time is fleeting' — Longfellow John Snyoer 45 There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one's own safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind Orr was crazy and could be grounded All he had to do was ask. and as soon as he did. he would have to fly more missions Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didn't, but if he was sane he had to fly them If he flew then he was crazy and didn't have to. but if he didn't want to he was sane and had to Yossanan was moved very deeply by the absolute simplicity of this clause of Catch-22 and let out a respectful whistle Thomas Glenn Blakney — Joseph Heller. Jubal found, to his surprise. that although he was overflowing with emotion, it was a calm happiness that did not bring tears What a quaint and gawky puppy his son had been when he first saw him so eager to please, so naive in his little mistakes — and what a proud power he had become without ever losing his angelic innocence I grok you at last, son — and would not change a line. 46 — Robert A Heinlein. STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND C) CL'rrvOtLsy? 47 John Friedman There was a young man who said. Though it seems that I know that I know, what I would like to see is the 'I' that knows me.' ON THE TABOO AGAINST KNOWING WHO YOU ARE 48 Scott Dufresne 50 52 MacTavish McTowell Fred MacDowell More than eyes On the world More than shoulders Under your hands More than toiling And hopes I am. — Edward S Spriggs When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men. Jews and Gentiles. Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and ring in the words of the old Negro spiritual. Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last. — Dr Martin Luther King. Jr. Al Gray 55 So on and on I go The seconds tick the time out. There's so much left to know. And I'm on the road to find out Well, in the end I'll know. But on the way I wonder through the descending snow. And through the forest and thunder I listen to the wind come howl. Telling me I have to hurry I listen to the robin's song saying not to worry So on and on I go. The seconds tick the time out. There's so much left to know. And I'm on the road to find out. — Cat Stevens Toby Lewis Until a man has learned to listen, he has no business teaching, until he realizes that every man has something of truth and wisdom to offer, he does not begin to learn It is only when he sees how each of his fellows surpasses him that he begins to be wise to himself and to his fellow men 56 Don't you feel a change a — coming from another side of time, breaking down the walls of silence lifting shadows from our mind Placing back the missing mirrors that before you couldn't find filling mysteries of emptiness that yesterday left behind And we all know it’s better Yesterday has passed now let's all start the living for the one that’s going to last Yes. we all know it's better yesterday has past now let's all start living for the one that's going to last — Cat Stevens, Changes IV' Gary Squires 57 Ian Hughes Breathe, breathe in the air Don't be afraid to care Leave but don't leave me Look around and choose your own ground For long you live and high you fly And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry And all you touch and all you see Is all your life will ever be Run. run, rabbit, run Dig that hole, forget the sun. And when at last the work is done Don't sit down, it's time to start another one For long you live and high you fly But only if you ride the tide And balanced on the biggest wave You race toward an early grave — Pink Floyd 68 Peter Dunkley I would rather be a free man in my grave than living as a puppet or a slave 60 The young person who has never known hardship, who never has had to practice self-denial or make a personal sacrifice, may be the envy of other young people whose lives have been one continued struggle. They may think that if they could have had his easy circumstances they could have made a great deal more of their lives. But in reality, their chance in life thus far has been much better than his. Manhood is made in the field of struggle and hardship, not in ways of ease and luxury Hindrances are opportunities Difficulty is a school for manhood — J. You always seem older than yesterday. And you're waiting for tomorrow to call. — Berme Taupin 66 Confusion will be my epitaph As i crawl a cracked and broken path If we make it we can all sit back and laugh But i fear tomorrow i'll be crying. Yes, i fear tomorrow i'll be crying — King Crimson I listen to the wind to the wind of my soul Where I'll end up well I think, only God really knows I've sat upon the setting sun But never, never never never I never wanted water once No. never, never never never I listen to my words but they fall far below I let my music take me where my heart wants to go I swam upon the devil's lake but never never never never I'll never make the same mistake No. never never never never — Cat Stevens Jeff Gorman 67 Dear Abby.
