This is the way that God would go Oh, white capped nurses in dresses blue Our Great Physician's working through you. Anonymous GOD GIVE ME STRENGTH Each day I pray, God give me strength anew To do the task I do not wish to dog To yield obedience, not asking whyg To love and own the truth, and scorn the lie, To look a cold world in the faceg To cheer for those who pass me in the raceg To bear my burdens gaily, unafraidg To lend a hand to those who need my aidg To measure what I am, by what I give-- God give me strength that I may rightly live! Anonymous 6 4 4 7 6 Y I he-Ik I DEDICATIO From the day of our first meeting with her, we all have felt the calm and warmth of her presence. For listening to our complaints, for caring when we were sad, for encouragement and strength, we would like to express our appreciation by dedicating the 1962 TRINITARIAN to Mrs. Lena Leaf. 1..,,....,:..-..-.,.,.....f...-1 - , - -- EDICAL STAFF A typical dinner honoring the Medical Staff. BGN VCYAGE Immediately following graduation the class of '63 gathered up their meager belongings - school pin, diploma, cap, and ANA membership card - and boarded the USS Hope to devote their pure lives in sincere dedication to the comfort and total patient care of the sick and maimed of the world. Following the burial at sea of all patients aboard, Mrs. Kukler, our loyal skipper, sat us down to a stimulating evening of discussing the failure of nursing care plans. Being somewhat discouraged, we decided to take a little world tour to seek out the achievements of our upper- classmates . Our first stop, of course, was New York City where we found ROSIE ACTON and NORMA GEIVETT with another important past member of the Trinity staff, Dr. Fischer. The girls have a great time fifth avenuing-it when not advising Dr. Fischer as to the correct interpretation of his EKG's. By the way, it still takes Norma an hour to give report. Greenland, the largest island, was our next stop. There in this womanbarren land, LOUISE WILEY is struggling for eXiStGHCC'as an instructor in O.B. We hear Louise is very strict about taking oral temperatures with rectal thermometers. Our next stop was foggy London-town where we found ROZ BIVINS busy with her duties as president of the British Nurses Association. Even though her name was misspelled on the ballot, Miss Bivins accepted the position with honor. Roz recently wrote an article for national publi- cation called The Correct Procedure for Dismissing A Patient. We were fortunate in finding LYNADA and David stepping out of their Volkswagen in Sweden after invigorating intellectualizing. With luck they will attend their final graduation exercises within the next two years. A quick visit in Denmark with KAREN KELSO revealed that she is still undecided about her marriage. Miss Kelso is studying the advantages of trial marriage and hopes to introduce this in America soon. In Switzerland we found the ex-CAROL GRIFFITH trying to get husband Kenneth to tell her why he embezzled all the tax returns for the year 1962. Really Ken, it doesn't cost that much to get married. Remember JOANNE WHEELER'S surgical ambitions? We found her at an Army base hospital in Germany. We talked to IOHHHS during her break and found that she's still trying to get Jim to say yes. As we entered the classic city of Madrid and heard the crowd at the arena, our blood pres- sures went up with excitement. You can imagine our surprise when we saw WILMA WALLACE and JAN LEFFINGWELL running a combined concession stand and first aid station. We were en- couraged when we heard that I an and Wilma hope to increase their status and fight themselves someday. ln the still falling Roman Empire, we found none other than JUDY HENDRIX and MARY HESTER compiling observations for their essay entitled The Nursing Aspects of LA DOLCE VITA. lt's the underlying scientific principles that stump them. They hope to have their paper published in a future AIN. While we were on a lion hunt deep in the heart of the Belgian Congo, we saw SHARON SHELLER and ANITA MASON who were passing out antacids to the Cannibals. Their only dif- ficulty seemed to be in adjusting to the high protein diet. Walking in her sandals along the Sea of Galilee, we found DOROTHY DOERING on her an- nual three day vacation from her duties as head nurse in a small Kansas hospital. Her minister husband was along . Snake charmers are not the most important sight in Iran these days. It seems that one of Iran's leading doctor's wife, our own KAREN LUNDELL is director of nursing at the local general hospital. We understand that Karen gives excellent lectures on the Lutheran interpretation of the Koran. In Moscow, we witnessed JUDY GONDEK, as she proudly watched her seven Caesarean born sons in dress parade. To make the money to send her sons to the BEST military school Judy works part time caring for the preserved bodies of Krushchev and Lenin. In the mystic, mysterious Orient ANNETTE MCELHENEY and MARY LUNDBLOM had made their homes . We found them greatly helping to increase the already rapidly rising population. As we set out again, Mary shyly whispered, They're cheaper by the dozen. Annette added, If I could only remember to take my pills. From the Orient we stopped in Hawaii, the paradise of the Pacific. Here, BEV SCHROEDER and DONNA KIEFER were busy keeping their husbands happy while setting up a disaster nursing center to include the whole island. They reported that business was booming during the last volcanic eruption . On the southern pasture of an extension of the Ponderosa in Argentina, we found J EANETTE ISAACSON with husband Hoss and baby Hoss, Jeanette's life long dream come true. We hear they soon expect a visit from brother-in-law Adam. P.S. Also another little Hoss. Cuba is still a very scenic islandg there JUDY STATON was helping husband Barry set up his dental office. To help finance Barry's practice Judy works weekends teaching the aging Fidel Castro to twist. Sounds good, Judy! As our ship heads back, we feel that we have been inspired once more to continue with our careers. Whether or not this prophecy comes true, we know that you will find happiness, and will shine for TRINITY no matter where you go. Between the innocency of an entrance exam and the R. N. there comes a delightful creature called the Student Nurse, S. N. They come in assorted sizes, weights, and shapes, but they all have the same creed-- to enjoy every second of every hour of every day--off duty or on--and to protest with griping ftheir only weapony when their 40 hours are over and their charge nurse is in the coffee shop. Student Nurses are found everywhere, underneath or running thru, swimming from or running over. Patients love them, R. N. 's boss them, orderlies ignore them, Doctors tolerate them and nothing protects them. A Student Nurse is truth with blood on her uniform, beauty with gloves on her hands, wisdom with penicillin in her hair, and a future with scissors in her apron. To a Doctor, a Student Nurse is an inconsiderate, questioning, intruding jangle of noise. When you want her to make an impression she becomes a sadistic, giggling creature, who's bent on wasting as much time as possible and sleeping thru classes. A Student Nurse has the appetite of a horse, the energy of a soap solution enema, the lungs of a switchboard operator, the sharpness of a scalpel, the audacity of a nurse's aid and when she gives a pill, she has 5 thumbs on each hand. She likes good food, vacations, money from home, love stories, doctors, H20 in its natural state, and days off. She's not much for books, surgical attire, study hours, the metric system, doctors' lectures, case reports and deadlines. Nobody is so early to rise and so late to bed. Nobody else can cram into one day, 5 enemas, 12 complete bed baths, 5 classes, 2 trips to the morgue, 4 trips to the phar- macy, rounds with the doctors, set up a uniform, polish her shoes, stay out til 11:45 p. m. and still get along with a roommate. A Student Nurse is a magical creature--you can campus her but can't make her stay out of trouble so you might as well give up. She's a fun loving bundle of noise but when she gets off duty with aching feet and tired back, she'll drop into bed and tell her roommate goodnight with these famous last words, Wake me at six!
