Slowly but surely, louder and stronger, the Junior class struggled to as- cend from their black hole of passiveness. ln the first few weeks the Junior class appeared to have lost their enthusiastic spirit from the previous year. Pep rallies seemed to lack the ex- citement that they possessed in their Sophomore year. In the words of Wen- dy Johnson, lt takes something really exciting to get them to stand up. Numerous reasons were heard around the Trojan campus explaining the source of this decline in activeness. The cause according to Christy Crowell was, . . . beccruse we were stuck in the cor- ner of the gym in pep rallies. The reason seen by Mike Douthit was con- trasting in that he believed . .. most of the Juniors didn't care whether we won the spirit stick or not. As the year progressed the Junior class started to peer out from their depression and become involved in ac- 4 N 6 tivities and contests. Winning the first prize in the homecoming float contest gave the Juniors the inititive they need- ed to come out of their shell and stand up and be counted. The Juniors finally got up the nerve to come alive and let the spirit inside of them take over. They won three spirit sticks in succession with this new burst of excitement and en- thusiasm. According to Fred Clark, l think that the Junior spirit didn't decrease, instead it rose steadily. At last the Juniors saw that they were indeed still the same class that had previously stunned the entire student body, faculty and administrators with their vigorous attitude and indestruc- table spirit. The feelings of Joe Kalbfleisch sums up the ideas of the ma- jority of Juniors in saying that, We're the best Junior class there has ever been and in my opinion ever will be.
