Rodeo was one sport that took a strong body, a great deal of skill, coordination, and a knowledge of animals in which to compete. Thirteen students at Trinity possessed all of these elements. They were the members of the school rodeo team. The members competed in rodeos throughout the year. At each rodeo there were twelve events, each requiring a 512.50 entry fee. This was the reason area businesses spon- sored the team in such events as bull and bare back riding, team roping and barrel racing, among others. Team members practiced regularly in hopes of qualifying for the state championships. Two people from Trinity accomplished this goal. Doreen Zaremba and Gerald Maynard competed in the state meet, held at Bowie, on June tst. Gerald did especially well in the chute dogging competition, an event that usually takes about five seconds to complete. Playing a part in the team's success were the sponsors Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gasch and Mr. and Mrs. Don Bynum. lt was their responsibility to see that meetings were attended, members learned of the upcoming rodeos, entry fees were paid and the other duties were completed. They also devoted many long hours to organize the Trinity High Rodeo. The team members and sponsors, through hard work and devotion managed to complete a spectacular rodeo season. Thirteen members and four sponsors made up the 1981-82 Rodeo Club. The club met every Tuesday night to discuss plans for upcoming rodeos, to come up with fund raising ideas, and to talk about their club picnic. Members kept busy by asking area businesses to sponsor local rodeo events. They also sold lottery tickets to HEB residents for a free side of beef. To make sure projects ran smoothly officers were chosen. They were: Pres: Jackie Bynum, V. Pres: Doreen Zaremba, Sec: Elaine Thomes, and Serg. at Arms: Gerald Maynard. The most active time of the year came during the fourth weekend in February. That was when the club sponsored the Trinity High School Rodeo at Alta Vista Arena. The three day event had to be organized with precise skill. This skill was displayed as programs were printed, livestock was ordered and sponsors were found. The Rodeo Club suc- cessfully came through as the rodeo proved to be a tremen- dous accomplishment. The Trinity High School Rodeo was a perfect example of how a group of people could get together and accomplish their goals through hard work. It was symbolic of the club's determination that it represented Trinity in its usual superb manner. Opposite page, above right: Future Rodeo club members practice roping.
