5-an Concentration, that was the name of the game in diving. The approach, the mount, andthe dive demanded precision and exact movements. Hours of practice were spent learn- ing new dives and perfecting old ones. The THS divers worked hard this year. Although there were only five divers, they did an outstanding job. The only girl diver was Tonya Williams. ln her first year of diving she placed second at District and sixth at Regionals, a great ac- complishment for her. The other divers were Robb Miller, Brison Phillips, Daryl Pate, and Chip Irby. Chip was the only junior. Although not able to dive at the District meet because of a broken eardrum, he contributed greatly by assisting as a coach. The remaining three Seniors took first, second and third at District: Miller, first: Phillips, second: and Pate, third. At the Regional meet: Miller, again first: Phillips. fifth: and Pate, sixth. Though only Miller went to the State meet, the perfor mance of all the divers this year was excellent. Opposite page above left: Daryl Pate doing a front dive, layout position.
