They opened the season by splitting a double- header with Abilene Cooper 8-6 and 9-O. After these games Trinity ran off seven runs to Haltom's five. They dropped their next two contests to F.W. Arlington Heights 12-0 and Arlington 3-1. In two close decisions the Trojan sluggers defeated Eastern Hills 8-7 and lost to Haltom 2-0. They destroyed their next two opponents by scoring 18 runs against Lamar and 12 against Trimble, while only giving up 10 total runs. By slim margins, Trinity lost their next two deci- sions to O.D. Wyatt 10-8 and Richland 4-3. The varsity then bounced back to a 7-3 win over Lamar before losing to the Arlington Colts 5-4 to close out the regular season. Trinity's District pre-season did not accurately depict their excellence during district play. They opened 5A-9 play with an exciting 4-3 victory over Grand Prairie. The Trojans were then shutout by Irving 2-0. They bounced back with an 8-4 defeat of South Grand Prairie. The Trojans then forced the eventual 5A-9 champions Duncanville where they lost 8-2. After the Duncanville loss Trinity rallied to 6 straight wins. Opposite page above left: Larry Ryder rounds the bases. Opposite page above right: Kip Gowland dives safely back into first base. They then completed their streak with wins over Irving 2-1 and South Grand Prairie 4-1. Trinity next faced their arch-rival Dunconville. They were again beaten by the Panthers 8-4. ln defeating Nimitz 2-O the contenders kept up the Trojan spirit while still being in position for the title. Unfortunately, after being defeated by MacArthur 1-O they were no longer in contention for the ti- tle. They closed the season with a defeat of Bell 7-3. Although they didn't advance to the playoffs, Trinity carried an outstanding 10-4 record through district play. Through clutch hitting and speed, Kip Gowland led the team in batting with an impressive .415 average and in stolen bases with 14. Scott Bowen proved to be the team's power man with 15 PtBl's. ln the pitching department Steve Bohannon accomplished a 7-2 record and was named to the All-District team while Michael Patak maintained a 1.60 a 1 ERA. buh-4 Opposlte page above left: Trojans look from the dugout.
