The determination to win and the tough com- petition presented served to unite the team toward one goal - victory. The season began with the Trojan's sound defeat of 3 un- compromising teams. The Trojans dominated the Richland Rebels throughout the opening game. With quarterback Jay Fitch's and Walt Zartman's combined touchdowns, the Tro- jans came out 21-14 victors. The following week the home team dealt Thomas Jefferson a crushing blow. Junior Jerry Lindsay and seniors Scott Adams and quarterback Brian Michelson joined forces and shut out the Patriots 35-0. However, Trinity was not satisfied with only one victory at Birdville Stadium. They returned to tromp over the Haltom Buffaloes 26-0. Adams and Fitch again brought the Trojans to a 14-0 lead, and a Bruce Keffer fumble return along with a Michelson to Lindsay pass put the Trojans up another notch on the victory list. The Trojans then entered district play. Although the first game was a setback for the team because Grand Prairie slipped by with a 14-18 win, the second game proved Trini- ty had what it took to win. Fitch collaborated with Mike Patak for an addi- tional 16 yard touchdown and along with another Adams' score from the 2 two aerial interceptions by Steve Priddy and Ray Holtzclaw led to a 29-B victory by the Trojans. The following week Trinity marched over the South Grand Prairie Warriors with a 35-7 victory. Fitch darted for a 19 yard run to the goal in the first quarter. Two second quarter touchdowns by Jerry Lindsay and Scott Adams added to Cole Jones' score from the 2 and Adams' 27 yard touchdown Trinity emerged the champs. The ensuing game found Trinity up against the team that had ruined the Trojans' perfect season last year - the Duncanville Panthers. The Trojans were down 7-0 in the first quarter but fought back to even the score in the second quarter. Well into the fourth period the Trojans scored again with Adams leaping for the score and Fitch later sneaked over the line to make it 22-20, and the homecoming crowd was ecstatic.
