C-CGD QPFE SE RESULTS I VICTCDRY The Trojans overcame three losses and Q' turnover problems to soundly whip the Castleberry lions 36-7. Castleberry controlled the ball much of the first quarter and even scored first after lim Gross recovered a fumble at the Trojan 47 yard line. Trinity lost the ball four times on fumbles and had one pass intercepted before Anthony Wynn scooted over for six points. A two point try by Kyle Bookout put the Trojans into a lead they would keep until the game's end. Defensive star Rodney Reynolds started the Trojans on their next touchdown bid by intercepting a Lion pass. The Trinity offense then proceeded to take the ball 52 yards for a second touchdown. After this drive, touchdowns came easily for the Trinity offense with help from quarterbacks Kyle Bookout and lohn Whitley plus yeoman work from fullback Chris Coffey. Credit defensive players lim Brown, Gary Hammond and Roy Adams for fumble recoveries. limmy Shoppa and Reynolds were the ball hawks of the night. i i l 4 i l i Trojans approaching lions' goal. R i . DEPE SE SI-II ES DESPITE DEFEAT The loss to Lewisville did not dampen the spirit for the first home game against the Lamar Vikings, and for much of the game, the Trojans gave the favored Vikings more than they bargained for. The game was knotted 7-7 until in the final minutes of play, Lamar punched in the tie-breaking, game winning score. The Vikings went to work quickly and drove the ball to the Trojan 35 yard line, but were stymied on the ten yard line by a Trinity fumble recovery. The Trojans gave up the ball on downs, and the Vikings, ten plays and 45 yards later, hit pay dirt. The extra point attempt was successful, making the score 7-0, Lamar's favor. Second quarter action saw a defensive battle between the two teams with the Trojan's limmy Shoppa intercepting two Lamar passes. Third quarter action saw Anthony Wynn, Trojan halfback, set a Pennington Field record as he galloped 98 yards for a Trinity score, knotting the game 7- 7. This scoring play was answered by the Vikings, though, as Randy Deering guided a scoring drive late in the contest which put the Trojans behind to stay, 14-7. The game proved a defensive plus for Trinity. 148 X Football REBELS UPSET TRCDJA S The upset-minded Trinity Trojan football team met the Richland Rebels at Birdville Stadium, and with a perky offense, led the Rebels 8-7 at half-time before falling 23-14 to mar their conference record. The game's first quarter passed without scoring, but in the second stanza Richland's Lonnie Chester scored on a 26 yard burst. Trinity retaliated with good offensive calls from quarterback lohn Whitley, who connected with Doug Eberhart in the Richland end zone to make the score 7-6, Richland's favor. The Trojans went for two points, successfully, giving them the lead at halftime. A miscue in the Trojan backfield opened the third quarter, and this gave Richland superb field position. The opportunistic Rebels made the turnover count for a score to lead the Trojans 14-7. In the fourth quarter the Rebels put nine more points on the board before Whitley connected with Eberhart for a touchdown, making the final score 23-14, Richland's favor. The Trojan offense compiled 262 yards in total offense.

QFFENSIVE BURST DOW STROIA S Anticipation of a needed win travelled with the Trojans to Wichita Falls to play the Coyotes, but all efforts to attain that win went by the boards as Wichita Falls High won the contest 21 -7. Actually, the game was closer than the score would indicate, for two of the Coyote touchdowns came on sudden offensive bursts. Trinity's defenses looked sharp as they contained the Coyote offensive attack most of the night. The Coyotes' first score came on the second play from scrimmage as Dan Ingram raced 74 yards to score and put the Coyotes in front 7-0. Trinity came right back during the second period of play moving 80 yards in six plays to score. Kyle Bookout was the work horse of this drive which culminated with Anthony Wynn popping for 13 yards into the Coyote end zone. But the Coyotes were able to put two more touchdowns on the board in the second period with aid from Zac Ellis. At the half the score was 21-7 - a score that was to stand as the final one, due to the defensive battle of both teams in the last half. ' F p 4-44.30 1-40 150 f Football . I ... -we - RIDER IS DQMI EERI G The domineering Rider Raiders of Wichita Falls had about all they could handle of the blossoming Trojan defense before squeaking out a 14-0 win over Trinity in Wichita Falls. The Trojan defense stopped all sustained drive attempts by the Raiders, and Rider only scored on big plays. The opening kick-off, nullified by penalty, could have been six points for the Raiders. An Interference call aided the Raider cause, with the penalty taking the ball to the Trojan 25 yard line. Rider's Delano Thomas sent the Raiders ahead with a six yard run to the Trojan end zone. What was to be the Raiders' only other score came still later in the first quarter when Thomas Penn hit Paul jones with a 32 yard scoring aerial. The Trojan offensive bid was hurt by key injuries to Gary Hammond, Chris Coffey, Marty Stover, Anthony Wynn and Trojan cheerleader, Coleen Houston. X l
