slr' I' Miss Farrell records six weeks averages. Mrs. Monroe leads in class discussion. Mrs. Johnson cheerfully faces another day. Communication skills serve as a basis for the English course of Trinity High School. These skills include public speaking, discussion, recitation, creative writing, writing of all standard types, spelling, grammar, and literature. Literature is correlated through the study of English litera- ture on the senior level, American literature on the junior level, and a combination of the two on the freshman and sophomore levels. The use of the Scholastic Literature Units, an innovation in the use of paperback books, presents theme centered literature on topics ranging from survival to personal codes. The living textbook, a study made pos- sible by the Star-Telegram, introduces the newspaper as a vital form of literature. In the classroom, literature becomes a mode of actiong students develop an empathy for others and acquire self-understanding. The Practical Writer, an aid in the development of compositions skills, attempts to prepare juniors for college by providing a plan of study on the topics ranging from procedures for taking an essay test to theme and paragraph writing. Team teaching facilities will provide the opportunities of combining efforts of the faculty in the future. A record library, overhead, filmstrip, opaque, and movie projectorsg tape recorders and record players are also valuable teach- ing aids provided for departmental use.
