The youngsters were an entirely new crew and therefore were given much advice by their Vice-Admirals, Mr. Un- derwood and Mr. Hines. The crew elected as their leaders the following: Presi- dents - Jimmy Hinson and Donald Davis; Vice-Presidents - Jarrell Smith and Charles Fletcher; Secretaries - Barbara Sugg and Rachel Scearce; and Treasurers - Betsy Andrews and Rachel Scearce. While at sail, we had the Freshman-Sophomore Prom. This was its first year and our theme was Moonlight and Roses. Everyone had a wonderful time. On the second jaunt of our trip, in 1950, we had new Vice-Admirals, Mrs. Fulp and Miss Davis. The leaders this year were: Presidents - Jimmy Hinson and Donald Davis; Vice-Presidents - Bobby Johnson and Duane Smith; Secretaries and Treas- urers - Rachel Scearce and Barbara Sugg. The Freshman-Sophomore Prom was again the gala event of the year and was now an established custom. There was much excitement, also, when everyone was measured for class rings. In 1951, we started on the journey in a new ship, having abandoned the former one. Mr. Smith was our new Admiral and we had as Vice-Admirals Mrs. Sprye and Mrs. Gold. We elected leaders consisting of the following: Presidents - Donald Davis and Jimmy Hinson; Vice-Presidents - Joe Aldridge and Calvin Berrier; Sec- retaries - Barbara Sugg and Rachel Scearce; Treasurers - Barbara Sugg and Peggy Harris; and Representatives to the newly formed Student Council were Barbara Sugg and Rachel Scearce. The Vice-President of the Student Council was Jimmy Hinson. There was much joy when the class rings arrived and much excitement in plan- ning activities to raise money for the Junior-Senior Banquet. We sold magazines, sponsored a Valentine Dance and skating parties, and other activities. The Banquet washeld at the Starmount Forest Country Club in Greensboro and everyone enjoyed immensely the program which was directed by Mrs. Gold. Among the last of the important events this year was the comical play, The Daffy Dills presented by the Junior Class and directed by Mrs. Sprye. When we began our Senior year the class was not allowed to remain a single group, as the former Senior classes have done, due to a larger number of Seniors. The 63 students were given two able Vice-Admirals, Mrs. Sykes and Mrs. Peace. However, we continued to think as one group and elected as our officers the fol- lowing: President - Jimmy Hinson, Vice-President - Joe Coltrane, Secretary - Barbara Sugg, and Treasurer - Joann Hill. Student Council Representatives were Jimmy Hinson and Bobby Hyde. On Thursday, November 6, we took our trip to Chapel Hill and the Morehead Planetarium. It was a beautiful day and everyone had a wonderful time. Our Senior Vice-Admirals gave us a Christmas party in the Home Economics building on December 18. Practically all the Seniors attended and everyone enjoyed it Some of the last important events were the trip to Washington from April 30 through May 3; the Senior play; the annual Junior-Senior Banquet, St. Patrick's Day Ewen given by our grade representatives, All four were very enjoyable and success- ul, The President of the Student Council this year was Joe Coltrane; Harvest Festival King and Queen were Bobby Hyde and Peggy Harris; The Homecoming Queen was Joann Hill; and the D.A.R. Representative is Margaret Smith. Our class colors are royal blue and white; class flower is the white rose; class motto is We have set sail; where shall we anchor? ; and our Mascots are Sandra Pennington and Tommy Harris. Our crew is now experienced in the work at THS and as we go forth in life it is our nope ee everyone will anchor in a port that will bring him happiness and suc- cess in life. This long record of victories can be contributed to several things: ability of players, teamwork, spirit. However, we feel that a great deal of credit should go to the men behind the teams, the coaches. The two men pictured above, head coach Harry Frazier and assistant coach William Cameron, were the men behind the teams in 1952-1953. This was Mr. Frazier's second year at Trinity, his first being spent as assistant coach. His teams this year in football, baseball, and girl's basketball have been very suc- cessful. He has become a friend as well as coach to the members of his teams. Mr. Cameron came to Trinity this year as assistant coach in football and as coach for the boy's basketball team. To those two men we say, Hats off for a fine job, and keep up the good work. 46 CHEERLEADERS Doxie Hughes Julia Smith Irene McDowell Leading the cheers for T.H.S, in 1952-1953 were, left Barbara Johnson to right, Irene McDowell; Margaret Collins; Iris Fow- ler; Doxie Hughes, Chief-cheerleader; Dixie Hughes; Julia Smith, Edith Mason; Barbara Johnson, Margaret Collins Dixie Hughes Iris Fowler The team with Assistant Coach Cameron and Coach Frazier MES a Ce Offensive team, left to right, front row: Right end, Donald Davis; Right tackle, Randall Bean; Right guard, Oscar Maness; Center, Bill Wood; Left guard, Calvin Berrier; Left tackle, Harold Monroe; Left end, David Sheppard, Back row: Right halfback, Joe Aldridge; Fullback, Glenn Ferguson; Quarterback, Buddy Parker; Left halfback, Calvin Wagoner, OBE ES aco i Defensive team, left to right, front row: Right end, Boyd Warner; Right tackle, E, W, Caveness; Right guard, Lee Roy Beck; left guard, Edward Wright, Left tackle, Jerry Gray; Left end, Donald Davis, Back row: Halfback, Joe Aldridge; Line-backer, Joe Coltrane; Safety, Sam Evans; Line-backer, Glenn Ferguson; Half- back, June English. 48 Football Managers: Duane Carrick Charles Davis Be RO cise ot SCORES Trinity Ne Ramsuer 6 Trinity 13 Mebane 26 Trinity 7 Bethel Hill 6 Trinity 38 Madison 0 Trinity 0 Randleman_= 13 Trinity. © 6 Jamestown 13 Trinity 0 Bessemer 40 Trinity 18 Allen Jay ie Trinity 19 Liberty 0 Trinity 6 E, M. GOOD CITIZEN Each year the senior girls and the faculty of Trinity High School select a girl to represent the school at the annual D.A,R. convention. This girlis chosenona basis of leadership, ser- vice, citizenship, and patriotism, This year Margaret Smith was chosen to fill this position. She has been an outstanding student throughout her years in high school and is quite capable of fulfilling any task she undertakes. VALEDICTORIAN AND SALUTATORIAN The valedictorian and salutatorian of the class of 1953 are Shelby Mosely, right, and Shirley Walker, left. These two girls have maintained a high average throughout high school and were chosen valedictorian and salutatorian on the basis of having the two highest averages of the senior class. 68 The school board of Trinity High School is composed of a group of men selected to supervise the activities of the school. These men have the inter- est of the school at heart and are constantly striving to improve the school. Their efforts frequently go without recognition and we wish to recognize them and their efforts on this page. SCHOOL BOARD Left to right: Mr. Thomas English, Chairman; Mr. Reid Mendenhall, Secretary; Mr. T. H. Smith, Principal; Mr. Glenn Albertson, Mr. Thomas Redding, board members. FUTURE TEACHERS' CLUB The F,T.A, Clubhas just been organized at Trinity this year and we feel it will be a great success. It is a club for the students who are interested in becoming teachers. We feel sure each member could make a most efficient teacher and, who knows, in a few years they may be. President: Jimmy Hinson; Vice-President-Joe Coltrane; Secretary: Billie Jean Oakley; Treasurer: Larry Albert- son; Advisor; T. H. Smith. 69 JR. STUDENT COUNCIL The junior student council, made up of representatives from the junior high grades, follows in the footsteps of the Senior student council. These juniors are learning to rep- resent their grades efficiently and to govern well. OFFICERS: President-Polly Willard; Vice-President-Carolyn Sum- her; Secretary-Terry Pickett, Treasurer-Frazer Smith; Advisor-Miss Rachel Earp. YOUR TEACHERS HAD ONE PURPOSE There was just one big lesson they set out to teach you â that is, believe in yourself. Self reliance, confidence, and initiative have made the Piedmont Carolinas one of the finest places you could possibly live and work in. So, congratulations. . the stage is yours!
