11 1- 3 Jtzfi- Q1 ' Q. ln August. 19-17, a group of excited girls and boys entered school, like other girls and bovs. But to them it was something different. It was an outstanding day in their lives - this was their first day of school! A day long looked forward to! This was the beginning of our high school days - the Class of '51, Wle had two excellent teachers this year: Mr. li. XV. VVelborn and Mr. Sidney Underwood. ln the two classes I-flliot Byrd and C. Simmons were elected pre- sident. In December, our class had a Christmas party in the Home Economics Building. Our first year ended and we were Sophomores. ln our sophomore year, we didn't feel as small and unimportant, since we weren't the babies anymore. Our homeroom teachers were Xliss Davis and Xlrs. lfulp. The presidents were: Harold Kinney and Tflliot Byrd. ln the spring, our rooms had a contest selling magazines, to increase our treasury. .Xliss Davis' room won and Xlrs. lfulp's room entertained with a wiener roast and havride. The most exciting occassion was the ordering of class rings. .-Xs juniors, we felt older and more dignified. Our homeroom teachers were Xlrs. Bothrock and Xlrs. Kelly. XVC chose the following class officers: President. Bobby' lfulp, Yice-President, llarold Kinney, Secretary, lfdna lfarlow, and Treas- urer. .Xlargie XYall. On September 29, seventeen of the juniors were tapped and taken into the Beta Club. One October 28, everyone was excited, because our class rings had come. X'Ve operated the Book Store, to make inonev. Our class had a Christmas party at the Home lieonomics Building in Decemberf In january, the junior .Xlarshals were taken in, in an impressive ceremony. The most ini- portant and unforgettable occasion of our junior year was the junior-Senior Banquet, held on the Balinese Roof Garden, Hotel Robert If. Lee, in TVinston- Salem. On .Xlav 20, our junior play, 'i-X Case of Springtime , was presented, with Xlrs. Rothrock as director. On Hay 25, we closed our junior Year, with it's happy memories, looking forward to becoming dignified Seniors. Seniors at last! The time we had for so long awaited. On September 3, 1950, +8 young men and women entered the Senior Class, with Xlrs. Peace as their teacher. Our officers were: President, Harold Kinney, Yice-President, Donald llancockg Secretary, lfdna lfarlowg Treasurer, .Xlargie XVall, Room Manager. Doris Hurlockerg Devotional Chairman, Louise Farlow, Bulletin Board Chairman. Phyllis Hillg and Patrol Chairman, Lewis Stroud. On September 29, four of our Seniors were taken into the Beta Club. ln the King and Queen Contest at the Fall lfestival, the Seniors had their King and Queen, Belva Frazier and Donald Hancock, as XVinners. During the year, we sold Havoring and stationery to increase our treasury. On October 25, our class visited the .Xlorehead Planitarium at Chapel Hill. Our Good Citizen to be represented in the Alexander Nlartin Chapter of the DAR. was lfdna Farlow, who deserved the title very much. On October 30, we chose our superlatives. December the 20, Xlrs. Peace gave a Christmas party in the Home lfconomics Building. The Senior Betas enjoyed the State Beta Conven- tion which was held in .-Xshville on .-Xpril 20 and 21. On Nlay 3, bright and early. a group of happy Seniors left for a tour of our Nations Capitol in XYashington, D.C. XYe had a wonderful time arriving home Sunday night .Xlav 6. Our class colors are .Xlaroon and XVhite, class flower, VK'hite Rose, Xlotto, Take the XYorld as You l-'ind it, but Leave it Better , and .Xlascots are: Carla Croker and jimmy Hill. As we look forward to our commencement, we are anticipating with joy, and are full of life and vigor as we leave our footprints and go from our dear Alina .Xlater to our place in life.
